Hey Everyone!

My 235 80 17's are wearing down and I'm starting to consider other tire size options.. Searched the forum and I cant find what I'm looking for.

I love the ride on the 235's on our hard pack mud/gravel and rock(might be the magic number for me) and slides through corners are controlled until the hand of god mode kicks in..

But in 8in of snow while rolling down a 20ish degree left canted slope I felt like the tire was just a hair too skinny and had some slipping action that I feel a wider tire might be able to fix.

I'm on the ropes between a 10.5 and 315 wide tire. Either way, most options require the BMC but at which angle(and filler plate) and how much needs to be chopped isnt clear to me.

Any suggestions? I would like to do a "one and done" body mount chop so that the rub problem is negated in the future up to 315.

Only size I’ve ever run on my GX is 255-75/17 (basically a 32”) so I don’t have any other input for you other than this…
going from your 31.5” skinnies to a wider, taller and much heavier tire, you’re gonna feel every pound.
The 4.7 is a good motor, but isn’t the most powerful nor efficient.
Let us know what you end up doing, and how your ride is (or isn’t) affected.

These tires don’t require a bmc if you have aftermarket UCAs, trimmed the wheel wells, removed the running boards , and have the right wheel offset

I Plan to get 33x10.5 next because it might solve my rubbing that my 285s have in full lock.

255/80R17 = 33.1”x10”
33x10.5R17 (really 32.7x10.5)
235/85/17 = 32.7” x 9.3”
285/70/17 = 32.7 x 11.5
