So I had a 21 4Runner and put the Raingler ceiling net in it and it was ok for stuffing jackets and soft gear into. Fast fwd to the GX460, I came across the KAON and Victory 4x4 upper shelves and am leaning that direction for more utility in ceiling storage. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with either of these? I'll be getting the matching window molle panels from whichever company I go with. Victory is US made and is cheaper than KAON which is Aussie made plus shipping is pretty steep. Thanks for the input!

I have the kaon shelf in my 460. I haven’t used it much, but it’s been great when I have used it. Got mine secondhand so I can’t speak for the original cost and shipping.

I bought the Victory 4X4 also, just a few months ago. I only got the shelf and one molle for the driver's side. I agree with r2m. They are way overbuilt. Very sturdy. Extra hardware as well! I had a question about the install and Victory responded right away. I hope to get a Victory rack soon.

Yep, and they have videos of installs which are good.

I have the Kaon. It’s pretty cool as it allows me to store stuff above the dog kennel.

JW offroad also makes one

I have the Victory and had to modify it to my liking. It intruded too much on the 2nd-row headroom in my opinion and mine rattled when when I wiggled it around before installing. Drilling holes three inches back fixed the headroom (I still have plenty of room for access) and some double-sided tape fixed the rattle. Way overbuilt for what it needs to be but that's better than the alternative.

A little more detail here.

Make sure you are comparing US dollars... Kaon's listed price may be Australian dollars and are cheaper in USD. I have several Kaon items and the conversion rate tends to offset the shipping cost.

The shipping cost was more than all the parts I was looking at getting...

Just to chime in on this almost month old post, Bison Gear makes one as well. Price is reasonable even with shipping ( from Poland). If you get a couple items from BG it would be ideal due to shipping. I have seen the Bison Gear rack in person and was pleased enough that I am ordering one with a few other local folks getting some other bison gear items and splitting the shipping.

I really like the look and install of the KAON, but the shipping cost is painful. I'm sure all the other makers listed in this thread produce quality items as well.

The grid openings look larger and more spaced than standard military MOLLE, which is kind of important for those of us who used MOLLE components. Do you know if they are or is it just camera angles?

I don't think the Bison rack is intended for MOLLE components (at least it's not advertised as such) as much as it is for storage. I agree the spacing is much too large and you can see that in the customer photos in the reviews. They make some side/window MOLLE panels. It's an important consideration that you called out for anyone shopping for something like this, what are the needs from the rack itself.

I lean towards wanting to use the MOLLE platform. I'm an active Army reservist and have a lot of leftover Army MOLLE components from when the old ACU (digital camo pattern) was phased out and OCP was brought in as the new Army camo.

Looping back, I actually ordered a Bison Gear rack and just installed it. For anyone else looking the "squares" are like 2.5"x2.5." I can only assume the design choice is for weight savings and access to things in the storage shelf. Super quick shipping from Poland! We'll see how it works out for us. I know there are a number of options out there, but now that I have it installed I am happy to provide any other details/measurements anyone might need.

I forgot to add pictures.

MOLLE grid is usually from 1" x 1" to about 1.5" x 1.5"
Although, looking at some of my packs and pouches, the pattern sometimes depends upon who's stitching the webbing. I've had some too small that I couldn't use.

I run the Kaon shelf and the Raingler net. I like the net for what you stated, jackets, pillow, and blankets. Heavy items go on the Kaon shelf.

I recently got the Bison Gear shelf + cargo barrier and the side panels as well. I like that the barrier can fold up and is secured by magnets if I need the space to load things with the 2nd row folded down. I’ll admit I must have missed it in the description that it folds up, as I was prepared to just take it off when not needed. Was a pleasant surprise ☺️

I had no idea it folded up! Dang! I skipped getting that because I thought it was fixed. Very nice!
