GX460 3rd Row "In-floor" Storage Solution (5 Viewers)

Yep, we have one for when we’re just car camping and seem to bring our whole house with us. It serves a purpose and I do like the storage it provides but it’s limiting in a lot of ways.

Such as, can’t open the cargo door without removing everything from the carrier (thank goodness there’s the glass hatch), loading a big dog in the back is a pain (btw, our dog finally jumps in by himself!), stuff’s all in the open and not in a locked enclosure, departure angle is severely reduced and would be worse with a swing-out adapter, and so on.

Not to mention, it can be hard for people in trucks/SUVs to see it if they drive too close and weren’t paying attention on approach. Apparently, even when there’s stuff on it.

First day we ever used it, I was ordering lunch in a drive thru and a lady in a Mercedes SUV drove right into it. When I got out to take a look, I asked her to back up and she tried to drive forward more(!), cracking her bumper in the process. I did comment she was way too close regardless of the carrier.

Been planning to put some hi-vis poles at the corners of the carrier, but they’ll need to fold away or be removable for when the carrier’s empty and folded up tight to the GX.

You hit the nail on the head for the reasons I don't like a hitch carrier, and not a fan of the barn door with the dogs along with other issues. Will also add that a hitch carrier sticks out far enough that at night camping in the dark it is perfect height for hitting your knees when walking behind the rig. No matter how careful you are

For hi viz poles on my trailer when pulling it empty I attached snow plow guides from etrailer. I drilled holes in the gate and used wing nuts so that I can remove them or change the position when I drop the gate.
