That pricing is not unreasonable. My 2007 GX had a MSRP of around $57k. That converts to $84k in 2023 dollars. The Overtrail is a more advanced vehicle with many more features for $10k less.

It's really pretty amazing how stable vehicle prices have been when inflation-adjusted, despite vehicle capability/features being objectively better. Inflation does really suck, but when you correct for it it's crazy to see how far things have come.

The only stand out is the added 8k for the Plus version of the Overtrail, which the listed features don't seem to justify.

It's not and never really has been a simple inflation adjusted price issue. It has much more to do with how it compares to wages and what percentage of disposable income things cost.

This is what I’m trying to understand. If I could option the Overtrail with the ML stereo, this would be my choice. Instead you have to accept $8k increase, plus the ML upgrade cost.

Right. Even if it was included, I'm still not sure it would justify 8k unless something more is offered that's not on the published list. Maybe there's a happy ending feature to the massaging seats.

Wages in my field are about the same or even higher, when inflation-adjusted, as they were in 2009 when I started my career. So are gasoline prices, food prices, restaurant prices, etc. Housing prices are, however, much higher. I also live in the lower Midwest where things are cheap - prices have grown but not in the crazy-high rates in the coastal metro areas and other "cool" inland cities (Austin/Denver/etc) where the wages are only nominally higher than they are here.

It's much easier for us folks in the Hinterlands to buy a GX, though as I've mentioned before I won't be in the market for a long time :). Still, it's really a lot of rig for the price.

A lot of the stuff the GX OT+ adds should be standard on any Lexus. Power steering wheel, power rear gate w/ sensor, heated 2nd row, 2nd row sun shades, memory seats and mirrors. Those are all features that are pretty common on non-luxury cars now. If they come on a Subaru Forester or a Rav4, they should come on a base model Lexus GX.

And head up display is another $900 That is standard equipment these days.

So the overtrail + with added HUD, ML sound, traffic jam assist is going to run close to $3k

I am still pretty disappointed that our $50K Highlander lacks a power and heated steering wheel. It's a great ride, but missing those two cheap things at that price point is a bit inexcusable.

My first vehicle with a heated steering wheel was a 2002 Nissan Maxima…

Definitely an appreciated feature on my 460
