4 MORE WEEKS!
Anyone thought of what time there leaving. I would like to meet up and caravan down if your going down 81.

We are going down 81. I think the fastest way is 66 to 81. I heard last year they met in haymarket. It's a bit over 8 hours down there from nova.

Eight hours if you're not in a convoy of antique Land Cruisers.

And if that convoy contains Hoopty Pete plan on 16 hours.

I have no idea who hoopty Pete is, but he must be kin to me :)

I have been lurking around here on mud, but mostly taking care of a baby. Being a dad is awesome! I Can't wait until he is old enough to enjoy this stuff. It is definitely time to put a little mud on the tires.

Haymarket works but not at the sheets, no room for all you guys with trailers. It will be more than 8 hrs for me. 3000 Rpms and 60 mph is all I got. I say we meet early but not stupid early. Maybe the 8 - 9 range?

Ditto on the Dad stuff. Bringing my 4 yo boy for his first tent camping/wheeling trip. Should be a good time.

There is a new Wal Mart across Route 15 from the Sheetz now. Plenty of room in that parking lot.

Disregard disregard this was the wrong sheets I was thinking of. This one will not work for me.

That sounds good Walmart across Route 15 from sheets at eight or nine that works for me.

How many folks are planning to head down Wednesday? Sound off if you are and would like to convoy.

For those that would like to convoy, I have three propostions:

1) For those in the NOVA area and East: Meet at the Manassass rest area/welcome center on I-66, or as suggested above, at the Walmart on Rt 15 at exit 14 on I-66 around 0930. Then,

2) Stop again at the Loves truckstop at exit 291 on I-81 south of Rt 66 at around 1030 to meet up with those coming from Winchester and other points North and West of Manassass.

3) Skip option 1 and everyone meet at the Loves truckstop at exit 291 on I-81 south of Rt 66 at around 1030.

Let's hear what you think.

We'll try to make the convoy but with a 4 months pregnant wife, 2 yo and 4 yo we'll see how it goes.

You guys should plan on it taking you at least 10 hours to get there. I've made this trip 12 times, and it always takes a minimum of about 10 hours to get there. You are forgetting about fuel stops, weather, accidents, flats, the hills on 81, traffic in Knoxville, etc. Last year driving solo, towing with my father's Tundra trying to maintain 70MPH, it took me a little under 10 hours. I combined all fuel, food, bathroom breaks, and it still took me that long. The venue for this years event is a little closer than last, so that is even better.

Every fuel, food, restroom stop you take will add 15 to 30 plus minutes to the drive. I81 is notorious for problems. We've experienced everything from thunder storms that slow traffic to a crawl for miles, to accidents that stop traffic dead for an hour, flats, overheating, tow rigs losing axles, trailers losing tires, losing exhaust system components, having to stop for fuel every two hours because a FJ40 gets 10 MPG, having conversations with local PD about the street legality of trucks... I'm sure I've forgotten a few.

Despite all the disasters our group faced, we always figured out a fix and made it down and back as a group.

Sometimes the tow rig needs to be towed.

Is this near 66?

Yes this Walmart is right off on 66 but it will not work for me after rereading the post.
I will need someplace off of 81 at the convoy. If I know about what time y'all will be getting off of 66 on to 81 I can be right off the highway and just pick up the end of the convoy.

0800 would equal stupid early for me, but 0900-1000 would be more practical for me.

Stump, How far from Haymarket are you?
If you meet up in Haymarket at 9 we will be at the event (mapquest 5:00) actuality with our convoy 7:30-8:00 with no acks of GOD. That leves us less then an hour of sun light to set up camp.
