Are these the holes that ain’t? I decided to go into deep clean prior to installing, but haven’t had a chance to open up the box for my drawers yet.

Mine is a 97 if that makes any difference.

I don't think so... On mine (HDJ) the holes with the plugs are closer to the tailgate and not that wide.
So what I've pictured is what I've put in blue, but we need what is in red?

What’s funny is looking at the underside of my carpet. You can clearly see the carpet has provisions for all three holes on each side

Red is correct.

Some engineer must have saved Mr. T millions of dollars by removing that hole and plug, but left the carpet unchanged.
And that’s what’s odd. I would think it would cost them money to retool instead of keeping it the same across the board. I wonder if Araco did some of the 80s and not the North America ones? I dunno...

Good news is I can use my carpet as a template!

So what's the solution guys? I'm in the same boat-no threaded holes.

@Skippyd is yours a nutsert or something that has an integrated threaded hole?

I’m guessing our solution is a thru hole with flat washer on either side with a nylon nut + Loctite with silicone for water intrusion. I crawled under mine and it doesn’t look like anything is in the way and should be relatively easy to get a tool on it.

Mine was just a hole similar (but maybe not as big of a diameter) to what you had in your pictures, but it was filled with a rubber plug. I can try and get a pic later.

I just used a bolt and some washers. The hole on the bracket is kinda small, but I was able to force a M8 size bolt through. I forgot to loctite the nuts....

Guys, talking to BC4x4 they agree the easiest and simplest solution is a hole drilled with a large flat washer & lock washer with a nyloc nut below, on a bead of silicone. (almost) every other 80 in the world else has this hole, now you can too! :)

It will make it a two person installation (one cranking the nut from below and one holding the bolt above. You could do a nutsert if you have the tool handy. but not required. Using a nutsert you would need to have sealant on the thread of course unless you use a closed end nutsert.

We will update the installation instructions and product description to note this possibility. Right now it is still a bit of a mystery as to which exact models have the holes deleted. You can help by sending me your full model number and yes/no on "the hole-that-aint" situations. Yes, you want the one circled in red.

On the bright side your deep cleaning game is strong. Very strong. Were those holes open / no grommet installed? Do me a favor and let me know your full model number please.

Gotta have a good base to get things going!

Mine is a 1997 Collector’s Edition. The driver side had a plastic adhesive - Almost like a circular band-aid (you can see it in the earlier picture I posted). Passenger side was open, but to be fair, my third row is already stashed away in storage and was removed when I bought the truck. Can’t be certain what was in place originally as hands have been in there. That said, the “band-aid” is present in other holes in this area as well.

Call it OCD, but would rather not drill if I didn’t have to. I haven’t started on my drawers yet, how integral is this particular mount? Would it be possible to just leave it out?

It is mainly a safety issue in case of a roll-over and load security while going over off-road bumps at high speed - dynamic load physics apply (what goes up must come down).

You could be in a scenario where you are going over a hump at high speed and the front of the drawer stays put and the rear drawer lifts up and slaps down again.

Since this is a hole almost all Land Cruisers have I have no issue making it standard instructions to drill the hole if your model doesn't have it. It is a small compromise for a lot of piece of mind. If you choose not to connect it in the rear you would be doing so at your own risk, but we completely understand if this is a non-starter for you either way - full refund can be done.

For those that have installed the drawers, quick couple questions.

Can the front brackets be installed/removed easily with the drawers in place? I'd like to position everything to mark drill points and then remove the brackets to actually drill. Would like to avoid moving the behemoth in and out of the truck if at all possible

Should all jump seat strikers (four bars on the floor) and cargo hooks be removed? I didn't see it mentioned in the instructions, but don't want to hit a snag while trying to position.

Is everyone leaving their carpet in? If a better install is expected without (instructions call to remove), then I'll leave out. Same question for the wheel well carpet pieces.

Thanks!

First I left all the carpet in.

To me all the brackets are easy enough to access/remove, but the carpet makes the rears a little tricky (depends on the size of the hole cut in the carpet).

My truck doesn't have any 3rd row seat provisions, but I don't think it would be an issue to leave them alone.

My rear brackets tied into the cargo hooks location, so I had to remove that set. The ones near the tailgate, I left in and haven't had any snags.

Interesting on the carpet - especially for you with a vehicle already with the hole. Seeing that the perforations are already in place on my carpet makes it seem pretty straight forward if the hole is already present. I'm starting to think I'll just leave the carpet out but leave the wheel well carpet in. Hopefully that doesn't introduce too much NVH, but we're talking about a 20+ year old Land Cruiser on 35" mud tires - is that really a concern?

I'll have to get my drawers out to see what it all looks like, but the strikers and all are proud of the floor - perhaps the drawers are elevated in this area and no concern. I'd rather leave them in if possible - less holes that I need to cover.

Thanks!

Meh. Bit of a bummer but I’ll live with it. Appreciate the service nonetheless.

I just picked up the last items that I had ordered from Theo from Rugged Bound from the local LTL terminal. Penthouse XL RTT, 3 x Load Bars, Drawer Kit, 270 Awning, and Tailgate door.

I opened the last of my boxes and the load bars packing had a tear, and some of the nuts and bolts were loose. Amazingly, I think I am just one washer short. :p I call that a win.

Although, the locking washers have me a bit confused. See second picture. Only one mount out of the six has them. They all have locking nuts, making locking washers not necessary. Or, should they be used and I need to pick up more?

One of the load bar mounts has a cracked plastic liner (3rd pic), but I don't think impacts function.

The drawer system looks really nice. I have an extra bolt and washer...it just dropped out of its packing. Not the same size washer as one missing with the load bars. I don't know where it goes. Just extra as of now.

There is a divider for each drawer and a tip up work surface, but missing are the 2 drop-in boxes.

All told, just one broken plastic bit, one missing washer, and a tear on the 270 awning cover. Not too bad since these items came from South Africa.
