I just spoke with my local 4 wheel parts performance center and they are offerring to install for $480, dealer wanted $1800. Is the 480 a good price?

Too good to be true so be careful. They have no idea about the time it will take or maybe they think it is the same as the Tundra. If you know the manager or the tech go for it. Otherwise be prepared for the call that they need more money!

The dealer knee-jerked the price, they had quoted me 900 for the install of one exhaust manifold and when I asked the price to install two headers instead he came back instantly with the 1800. CLaimed it was a 10 hour job at 90 an hour for each side. Obviously the 4 wheel guys have not installed headers on a 100 series so they are giving me the price for standard install (talked about the tundra) he did say that if the intake manifold had to be removed to install the headers (like in the 3.0 liter Tacoma?) it would be 600.

The lexus tech quoted above seems to suggest he can do this job very quickly.

Desertrun, are you having Thorley do it? If so how much?

They won't need to take the inlet manifold off.

Yes Thorley is doing it and they offered to do it free of charge since they had my truck for a while to design the headers. I am trying to schedule a time to get it in there soon.

header coating

Does any one know exactly what type of coating is on them?

My local dealer quoted me $1200, saying the transmission would have to come out.

My guess would be yes, but I do not know for sure.

Got my receipt today, its says Header, shortie toyota land cruiser, 1998-02 4.7L

No installs yet?

Just picked up the header from Nick this mooring. I'm now sitting at my friends shop waiting for the install! I can't wait to try out the new header!! Im ready to say bye bye to the tick tick tick everytime I drive. The header quality is awesome!! Too bad I won't see it once it's install! BTW. The box did say this header is "Legal for sale or use in California on pollution controlled motor vehicles."

Are they installed?

Pics and feedback would be awesome.

Please provide any install feedback that may be useful to the group. Also, the headers come with instructions.

Mine showed up today and look very nice. There are instructions with them. You do need to disconnect DS motor mount and jack the engine a few inches for clearance. It sounds like most of the access is from inside the wheel well. Seems pretty straight forward.

They're fairly small, so if you think you're going to be wrestling something the size of a guitar, it's more like a viola.

Unfortunately, I have a trip tomorrow and will be gone again this weekend so it's going to be a few weeks before I can start wrenching.

schow - any update on the headers and how the install went and the performance afterwards?

Just got of the phone with my friend that install the header. He did say it's not easy to get the driver side in. You do have to lose one of the engine mount. I am also having pads, rotors, and brake lines install, so hopefully I get to pick up my TLC tonight. I will ask him what kind of issue he had when I pick up mu truck.
