This rig was posted in the classified section a little while ago. It looks great. Does anyone know how you could get your front grill to look like that? Is it just painted? Was it re-plated? Have any of you guys done this before? I'd like to have it done to my rig, but I dont want to screw it up.

It's known as flat black spray paint or black plasti-dip

The TOYOTA emblem comes off...

Don't break any of the plastic tabs getting the grille off to sand and paint.

The plastic pieces for the headlights are called headlight doors (for some reason)
and they come off with 4 long screws.

You don't have to sand all the chrome plating off the existing grill...just sand/scuff
the surface and feather in what you can where it's flaking...

Throw down a base of primer, then paint...ceramic engine paints are pretty tough.

When I did mine, I used a two color set-up, cast coat iron gray and Satin Black. (Not my truck anymore)

...and Tan 60's with blacked-out chrome are known (aptly enough) as Black & Tans.

Awesome. I think I'm going to give it a try. I really like the look of it. My healight doors are in pretty good shape, but the chrome on my grill is flaking off, so I think I'll start with that.

I did mine just like Trapper50 and couldn't be happier with the results and look.

As above I painted mine. Roughed it up and used a self etching primer. Its held up well.

I had the chrome removed from mine at a chrome shop for $15.00. This makes prep easier, just use adhesion promoter and a good paint and it's done.

Definitely brightens up the rig:D

 Spudman

I did my door handles, side vents, front and back, and the rims. Working on the window trim next.

I just purchased another 4 cans of the satin black, so I can do my door handles and mirrors. I hate chrome.
