I despise stainless fasteners.

Worked with too many useless stainless square-drive buttonhead screws and the like.

Not that that is anything relevant to this thread...

The only thing more expensive than stainless steel fasteners is stainless steel fasteners from a marine store.

Stainless fasteners are not all that. You have to be very careful where you use them, they are not very strong. Don't use them in structural applications that require a lot of strength.

A tip I learned from a place that sells nothing but fasteners (Samson Fasteners in Hampstead NH), they sell a lot of stainless to a boat builder company. They typically sell in big plastic pails, and what they do is dump some Future floor polish in the bucket when it's first opened, then they put the lid back on and give it a good shake to coat everything. Keeps the stuff from galling during assembly and even later when you have to take it back apart.

i <3 when ss fasteners gall together.

Yes, they will all do that when you try to remove them... unless you coat the threads with anti-seize. I like the copper version myself.

There are harder ss alloys out there, not sure what the types are. One thing is for sure, you do pay a lot more at the marine stores for ss fasteners.
