Greasable vs non shackles and pins

Energy suspension makes some super sticky clear non melting grease that comes either in single use squeeze tubes or a small white tub - it's about $15 for the little tub. Make sure you wear disposable gloves and double them up - the stuff will not easily wash off your hands - ask me how I know....

I have been running greaseable shackles for over four years. When I bought the '79 and was switching my "new" bushings and shackles over from the '70 and putting the '79 back on the '70, what a chore! Those old rubber bushings and rusty pins were a bear to deal with, especially for a re-install. Whereas my Energy Suspension bushings and shackles were a finger/thumb effort. Today I received my new shackles from Superior Engineering in Australia. No one offers the anti-inversion lift shackle in the USA anymore. The fellow who supplied all that Man-A-Fre sold got out of the business as he couldn't compete with the junk/low price coming in from India and China. These were quite expensive for me to buy here in Ecuador. The leaf springs I bought that were made here in Cuenca were okay on the front but were over arced on the rear and they insisted they were correct. I had to re-drill the pin hole for centering plus a speed bump would rotate the shackle resulting in no suspension. So I stayed with the springs that came on the '79 but they need to be replaced. Since bringing leaf springs in from out of country would be cost prohibitive I need to be prepared for a repeat experience. These things are heck for stout. They use 10mm plate instead of 6mm. They are two inches longer than stock for a one inch lift.

The con is that drilling the holes and/or channels for the grease makes them weaker and possibly more prone to break. That said, I run all greaseable on mine and have never had one break, but others have.

You have to use the right steel and process. In aircraft these types of pins are used all over the place. Yeah, if you use a piece of CRS and drill a hole in the center you risk problems.

i like greaseable pins and springs, we lube them up every year, even between the leafs(OME) and it take the squeaks away and seems to smooth out the ride(but probably my imagination) I also spray the leafs with Slip Plate(graphite spray paint) yearly. From what I can tell, all my OME poly bushings have held up for 15+ years.
