Hi,

I searched but did not find much discussion of advantages/disadvantages of greasable over polyurethane bushings. A buddy in a full-size K5 mentioned that his greasable bushings did not hold up well to the grease and had a tendency to split; he is back to polyurethane.

Any opinions, experiences comparing both set-ups? Thanks in advance, Claudia

Your K5 buddy may have had problem due to not using the right grease. I think it's silicone grease to be used on rubber or poly. I could be wrong.

I am probably wrong. But Poly bushings should use a Moly based grease. Simple terms.

Poly are stiffer, give better "handling" but need lubrication or squeek, squeek, squeek!

Rubber, squishy and mushy on the handling, but dont typically require the lube to run quiet.

I would recommend Poly bushings with greaseable shackles, I like how easy it is to push out the old grease after a mud or sandy run and fill the suspension with new grease.

Just my .02

greaseable is definitely worth it from a maintenance point of view, but i also think they're a little better off road...but, yes, they do require specific grease.

nuclearlemon, what specific grease would you recommend? Source? Thanks in advance, Claudia

it's a synthetic grease with molybdenum in it.

There is no question that poly with grease fittings is the way to go. Hell, this is NOT your father's Oldsmobile.

The difference between my 40 and 60 is seen in the suspension - the 60 has OME/w grease and the 40 has stock with no grease - Go grease all the way! I have been using a Mobil one synthetic - but need schooled - and maybe spanked......
