Goose Gear Plate System - Question

@Tex68w
I removed my carpeting when I installed the base plate. If you have ever removed yours you might remember all the foam and padding on the bottom side of that carpet. Toyota puts it in there to smooth out the contours of the cargo area metal floor.

The Goose Gear comes built up in those areas to somewhat make up for the foam on the carpet.
That said, I am not sure how exact the build-up on the plate is when compared to the floor of the LC. There might be plenty of wiggle rooms and it is very possible that you could leave the carpeting in and the padding would squish down under the plate.
But sorry… I can’t confirm since I never tried it that way.

@colby1979,
Since there are already holes in the carpet for the tie-downs, I think you would only need to cut holes into the carpet for any other bolts you decide to use to attach the base plate to the vehicle.

Tex68,
It’s too dark now for good photos, but I will take some with the rear seat lowered tomorrow and post them here, as you asked.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure. I had the Goose Gear plate installed on our last GX and you had to remove the third row and carpet as well but that was totally different third-row setup so I wasn't sure if it was necessary on the 200 as well.

Here is a pic of my boxes with the seats down for reference, doesn't really do you much good regarding height as mine are taller than MCtree's.

Yea I am curious if the deeper boxes at 8-10” tall would line up properly with the seat backs.

Yep, I like the looks of Dobsinons drawer system with its 11.250 in height, they should match up to the folded seats pretty close. Hit me up if you need a plate system. ;)

@Tex68w
Here are some photos with the second row pushed down, as you requested.
The height of the drawer is the same as that of the seat.
My seats don’t lay down flat in these pics because I didn’t remove the dog hammock nor the sheets of foam I put under the hammock (comfier seating for my boy) as I would do if I wanted to sleep there - but the heights are the same at the hinge, as you can see.
If you need pics with the row folded completely flat, I could remove the foam and hammock over the weekend. Let me know.

There is quite a gap though between the folded rear seat and the drawer. 3 inches or so.
I just tested and I’m not sure if I would need to fill in that gap if I wanted to sleep there though. For me that gap is in the waist area above the hips that doesn’t make contact with the mattress.

Lastly, which size drawers did you buy?
Oh… and I bought the 19-3/16” by 9.5”by 40” deep drawer.
In retrospect, I wish I would have purchased the 22” wide drawer.

And it’s weird that they don’t offer a 43” inch deep drawer since that would be a closer fit.
Now I’ll have to find a use for that gap.

@MCtree thanks for the detailed reply with photos, this is exactly what I wanted to see. Good to know about going wider with the drawer. In regards to the gap, I imagine that's as deep as they could go without interfering with the second row seats ability to full recline?! I need to decide if I should go this route with a discount plate system bought locally to reduce the overall cost or with my previously desired Trekboxx Bravo. The Goose Gear setup would allow for that same configuration at roughly $1K less. Ultimately I'd like the height to match the seat backs so that I can still sleep inside when necessary. Decisions, decisions.

Is a “discount plate system bought locally” a euphemism for DIY, or another vendor I would want know about?

Haha, it means there are a few used ones for sale locally.

That makes WAY more sense. Thanks! I’m bothered by their pricing for the new plate as well, so I sit.

I went with Goose Gear partly due to the price but also because I only want one drawer. I don’t think Trekboxx offers that.

Ps. @Tex68w, if you want to see my set-up in person, let me know.

I went goose gear, so I could pull the system relatively easily (30 minutes or so) and just leave the plate. This is how I am running it today, just the plate with a heritage mat over it for an upcoming ski trip where we need Max luggage space. Once that's done I'll put the system back in and start building a spot for a 2nd LiPo battery. I think I'm going to give induction cooktops a go.
Anyway its very modular and one person can pull it and install it in a short amount of time (install takes me longer due to electrical hookups in the wing.

I have not tried to sleep on it with the back seats folded.. I'm not a back sleeper so probably would not be great for me until I can do the rear seat delete as well (which is planned).

@rlynch356,
I don’t follow.
I’m not a back sleeper either - more of a side sleeper. But I don’t see how that matters in this discussion? I think I could sleep on my side on my goose gear drawer with the second row folded flat.

Though this is only “think.” I’m 6’5” so I need to curl a bit. But I think it would be okay for a night or two.

Wouldn’t a rear seat back seat delete leave a cavity down from the drawers?

In the 80 at least, the tops of the seat delete enclosures are the same height as the compatible drawer enclosure.

The 30 min to put in/take out you mention is a pretty nice feature of this system. Thanks for sharing that.

Didn't someone say you have to take it apart to reach the front mounting bolts? Or is it easy to remove the cargo box top?

Ah. I didn’t know. But in looking at Goose Gear’s web page (pic below),I see that you are correct!

Though I am still curious as to why back sleeping vs side sleeping is significant.
