Going to replace driver's side front door window -- should I take pics?

Do we need a write-up for replacing window glass?

How about another pointless poll?

To add to all my current woes...I had my 80 broken into last night. All he/she/they took was my Garmin GPS V, but now I need to deal with the window replacement hassle.

Since it won't stop raining in NorCal, I might need to work in a temporary solution...but I will be purchasing a new window from CDan.

Does anyone think this is worthy of pics and a full write up or do the rest of you think like I do that replacing glass should be part of the initiation process? A way to earn a  "stripe" on the arm?

You decide...the poll is up!

Dunno about just glass replacement, but while you're in there, cover lubing up the tracks and guides and I think you've got a great tech piece. Or at least one I'd check out - damn slow windows.

Pics are always helpful to know what's behind there even for other things, so yes. And if you do a real good job, I'll even put it in the FAQ

Man, I can't believe it! There must be a comet flying over or something? I've changed alot of door glass at work, it should be really easy. I replaced the driver's door window motor on the Cruiser, it took about 15 min. I'm not implying you'll have a hard time doing it, but I'd be happy to come help if you would like. Anyway, sorry to hear about your break-in.

Holy crap Doug that really sucks! Talk about insult to injury. I feel your pain, broken windows with rain aren't so much fun.

Did this take place at your home, or was it while you were out?

I say go ahead and take pics if it's not too much trouble.

In my own driveway no less.
So much for my false sense of security.
All the more reason for me to continue with a stock stereo.

I'm calling the bone yard tomorrow to see if they have a window I can make use of. Not the best option, but given the fact that it's going to rain the day after tomorrow, I don't have much time to screw around...

the interior of my rig is wet enuf

My suggestion would be to get crazy with the plastic wrap. When my rear side window was gone, the wife did such a good job with the plastic wrap that I think it might have been more water tight than the OEM glass. ;)

Doug, I hope you find some glass on the cheap. Sorry for the string of bad luck, I guess even car theives have the postman's motto! dang

One thing: Is the LX450 side glass tinted differently than the LC? I think it has a bronze-ish tone, maybe not?

Good luck and it would be nice to see a write up.

I know the windshield is bronze tint, but am not sure about the other glass. The chunks of glass shards seemed a little bronzy...but I'm not certain.

At this point, I don't care what color it is...I just need something before the skies open up again. Aside from that...I don't know if it would be all that noticable -- the difference in color since the rear door window is heavily tinted. I wonder if the color/tint difference would be noticable from the inside...

Yes Doug definately write it up and take pics.

If its anything like the experience I had changing the same window in my 60 many moons ago it wasn't all that easy.

Don't forget to clean and lube the bailey channels(window runners) I usually use silicon spray to lube mine. Also plenty of spray grease on the electric winder mechanism.

Pics are always good.

Doug,

That sucks. So much for moving to Roseville looking for more security...
Installing motion sensor cameras might me a good idea. But then again, they would have to be high res enough for people to be recognizable.

Speaking of security cameras, we had 3 installed in our office last year. About 2 weeks ago, someone stole one.

That bites!

Really sorry to hear it, Doug.

Hope you'll be able to take a few pics along the way.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Mot :frown:
