Going from an fj80 to possibly a kzj78 (1 Viewer)

Saturday was very good. The wind was kind of on it Friday, but there were some opportunities down at the ferry docks. It's been a good run the last few weeks!

I finally got my parts to finish the snorkel install. They were stuck in Tennessee for 5 days. I ended up modifying a few parts to make it work. The inner fender duct from a vdj79 that goes to the airbox was slightly too long for the kzj78. its soo close to fitting its absurd. to make things easier I ended up using some of the old air intake from the in the fender and combining/cutting the two to make it work. (right now its just taped but I plan on fiber glassing it together this weekend). This made it easier to use the rectangle hole that the vdj79 snorkel uses. I know some people modify the snorkel to make it work. but I modified the fender duct work. I used M8 sized nutzerts to attach to the snorkel and the Toyota OEM bolts that go to the lower part of the snorkel.

I will up load some more pictures tomorrow as I will use some sealer to make everything water tight. To do this I will need to take everything apart again. But for now here are few pictures of everything installed and working!

additionally my timing belt will get a change here soon. I just got most of the parts in the mail today to do this although I forgot to buy the pulley.

I think there is a certain antenna that goes for a snorkeled land cruiser 70 series. I gotta look into this as well.

I found some orange front turn signals that look more factory than the clear ones. Its my under standing that factory OEM is no longer available. I bought on eBay from Latvia a week and a half ago I think and they just got here. The listing said they are for a Rj77. I was not entirely sure that they would fit. They do though. The funny thing is they are actually made by the same company that made the tacky clear ones that were on the cruiser when I bought it.

looks better than the clear ones to me. I just always hated the way the clear ones looked. Now if I could find some factory headlights for a good deal Ill be all set!

Nice find! I need one for front right. It seems they don't carry in stock :(.

I am no longer a 70 series owner. I sold it this past weekend. While I loved this kzj78 it was not quite the vintage land cruiser I was after. So my fiancé urged me to sell the kzj78. Luckily we have 2 other vehicles so we will be fine. Originally I wanted to trade my land cruiser for another one like a fj55 or fj40. But a good friend offered to sell me his fj40! While it needs some work but I am super excited to dive into this fj40 project. I won't be in the 70 series section as much anymore but you will be able to find me in the 40 series section. Thanks to all of the people who helped me on the 70 series journey.

So I guess this thread should be called Going from an fj80 to a Kzj78 then to a Fj40.

Maybe one of my last post in the 70 series section! but I wanted to share the Land cruiser I purchased. Its a 1964 fj40. @Shyrock graciously sold it to me. I am over the moon with it. I have not made it home yet but here are some photos. The first photo is my father and I. He has always been supportive of my crazy land cruiser obsession. He helped me tow the fj40 home! And the second photo is Mark and I.
