If I were to build a 60 series with a 1hd-t H55 combo and wanted the ride and performance of the 80 series.

Would it be easier to swap the body onto the 80 series chasis or swap the components on the 60 series frame?

Or................. start over and build a 4 link rear and 3 link front OR........ radius front...

Basically looking for the characteristics of the 80, has to handle very well.

Last but not least is it worth the effort if the truck is only going to be wheeled lightly..

Rob

Not sure if it's worth the effort for some light wheeling, as the 60 is great with that on it's own. I know there's a thread floating around about someone who did a body swap onto a 80 frame (has FF in the title, if you search for it).

Would be cool to see what ya do with this though.

I would make 4 link rear and radius in front .. 80 series control arms are perfect for misc purpose .. and you can make a good rear flexy suspension always.

Manuchao has a thread in the 60 section on swapping in an 80s frame and gear.

There's another thread about a suspension swap 80 axles, coils and arms over to a 60. The truck has changed hands but the new owner is a mud member.

but they are both blue, so if your 60 isn't blue it can't be done.

Al (lowtideride) swapped a 62 body onto an early 80 series chasis as well and it is in the 60 section.

The 80 series has a longer wheelbase than a 60 so you kinda get to decide what you want to do there if you do a body swap onto an 80 chasis but if making your own suspension its no big deal.

Thanks for the respones, Andrea AKA diesel cruiser head shortened the frame on a 80, the truck was never completed and it was for a FJ55 body......

I will look at the options and weight them out...

I like this idea alot....

Do you want to keep the 60 axles or go wider to 80 series axles? Do technical differences like birf size or front diff ring gear diameter?

If I were trying to make a coil spring suspension for my truck, I'd develop a custom system. 4 link rear, 3 link front.

I would use the 80 series axle rear and maybe a 60 series front axle.

why not the 80 front axle also? stock for stock is it not stronger with the bigger birfields and what not?

The stock front third is an 8" so it is weaker. The birfs are bigger though... Maybe it's a wash.:meh:

Seen the ring gear fail on the high pinion unit with mini truck axle.

From my home stash of porn... Don't know whose it is, but I like it.

60 on an 80 frame..I think.

It's awesome for sure.

That's lowtideride's Uranus build. Siiiick.

yup, it was a pretty neat build, however I wish he did something different about the wheelbase differences.

I seem to be missing all the cool builds....

Tons are way over the top for what I will be doing with this truck.

Looking for a smooth ride and great off road, cruiser axles are plenty big.

I cut 6" out of the rear wheel wells on mine. I'm running 37s. I'll be honest. I think it is easier to build a linked suspension on an 60 chassis than it is to swap the body. You have to move the engine, driveshafts, body work in both fender wells to get anything but a really skinny tire, fabricate a new tranny hump, new crossmember, etc... It is a lot of work. No thread on mine as I'm saving it for publication.
