The v in suv stands for van. You all have vans. Now you know.

I did the upper kp because i bought the kits for both sides. Probably just needed the bushing replaced since the lower bearings looked decent but since i had the parts i changed everything. Had never done this job so it was good to learn how.

In the 5 years ive had this particular van ive never had any sort of wobble be it death or what have you. The first time out on pavement this spring the steering wheel had a shimmy when turning in either direction but i had not changed anything in the front end. When checking things out i noticed that the bottom kp had a decent amount of play in it, felt like loose wheel bearings when rocking the tire while it was up in the air but the bearings were mint since i had just done them. With the kp job done there isnt any slop at all but ive yet to drive it to see if the wobble is still there.

Van (mud flaps will verify this)

Well that is a sweet van!

I like the mud flaps that cure any doubt.

Lol.

Ordered the arms.... dont feel like dickin around with the ones on there now. Gonna replace everything on the passenger side tomorrow just so both sides are new.

Did the ps today and had no issues. Top kp cracked free with the breaker bar and everything came apart and went back together nicely. Took a couple shots that Ill post up later for Johnny.

Death wobble is not your small vibrations around a corner. It feels like your entire front end is trying to shake itself loose. It's violent and uncontrollable. Fairly scary when it happens the first time!

Yes, agreed. This happened once to me last week (just once, not every time under the same conditions). Tightening up the set bolts alleviates the issue.

V stands for Vehicle (sport utility vehicle). Soccer moms and people with 8 kids drive vans, not us

Yeah but before mini vans ppl with too many kids drove suvans like ours. Stop making s*** up johnny!

Never had the crazy wobble you guys are describing, just the shimmy at the steering wheel when turning (so far).

D

Be happy. there is a reason it's called death wobble. :D

Oh im happy!

What can cause it besides king pins on a leaf sprung vehicle?

D

King pins on a Coil over vehicle :D

Hahahahahahhahahahaha

Dont know if its the same but ive heard of a death wobble like symptom resulting from worn bushings or what have you on linked sfa vehicles. Doesnt really apply here though i guess.

I was looking at the brass bushing thats available from yukon when i was ordering the kits. It states that flat bottom steering arms are needed or something to that effect. Wonder how that would last compared to the plastic one.... Anyone used it?

D

DW is caused from loose axle stuff. KP, bearings, Tie rod ends, steering arms.. Leaf spring bushings.. Etc..

Gotcha. Yeah my 80 wheel would shake under braking when the wheel bearings were loose but it was fine around corners.

Greased everything up, made sure the tie rod jam nuts were tight for the 4th time and threw the 40s on today. Took er for a rip and no more wobble at all so thats cool. Felt nice and tight but i do think a redneck alignment is in order.

This is also a symptom of warped brake rotors/drums.

Don

Yeah, it was always the bearings on the 80.
