Depends on which GM alternator and which pulleys you have. Some pics would help.

On my 74 F.5, I modified a 2F bracket to position a GM 12si alternator with a narrow pulley to line up with the narrow grooves on my 2-grooved pulleys on the water pump and crank. I wanted to save the wide grooves for a P.S. pump.
It's a 170 amp 12si clone from alternatorparts.com.

It came out great, running for years and works well but a bit of work to do. I wouldn't do it again. There are easier and better bolt on options

Thanks for the replies, As to why, I thought that a single wire, higher voltage gm alternator was a good upgrade over stock and fairly easy to do.
