My cruisers have glow worms in jam jars for headlights it’s a good thing my night vision is on par with a FLIR thermal camera.

My H4 Headlight and wiring harness kit has arrived and looks great! I like how it’s double relayed and fused so if your having a problem your less likely to lose both lights.

Seeing as the company won’t buy winter tires I phoned in snow today to stay home unbury my 60 and install some retina burners and snow melters.

I found H4 halogens in Hella housings to work exceptionally well in my 40 (with relays and upgraded wiring). They were brighter than most new car headlights.

That said, these XULED bulbs in rectangle housings are ridiculously better than the H4 units they replaced.

Before with Hella halogen bulbs in E Hella house;

7am.

After with XULED:

Still 7am on the same day. Can you see a difference? The light is on in the first pic btw.

Halogen vs cheaper LEDs:

No focus, and effectively dimmer.

While driving this week.

In this diesel beast with a 215 amp, 32 lb beast of an alternator.., power savings isn’t a concern. It did require a CANBUS unit to make them work right.

$100 at Lordco last I heard… if the glow worms running a relay race don’t make it bright enough… or get too tired.

69$ at Toyota for the kit, 2 H4 bulbs and complete plug and play wiring harness. I’m sure this will be more than adequate!
For whatever reason, large round headlights seem to do better than the large rectangular ones. The H4s were like talking the blindfold off… the LEDs turning on the lights.

I was happy for 25 years with Hella halogens, I’m sure they be much better than the crappy sealed beams. To anyone else reading, I first tried new sealed beam halogens, and they were sad… to say the least. H4 are the way to go.

Love my h4s! Mine are still japanese, so angle the wrong way, but it's pretty minor

I really like the Philips h4 led bulbs too. (Also available at lordco). Less current draw, and the white light is better imho once adjusted too. I can't even see when I drive my wife's car with halogen now.

If your wife’s headlights are cloudy and/or yellowing, Autosol will take years off them. They’ll be looking great again in no time. You’ll find yourself wanting to show them off they’ll look so much better.

They're perfectly clear, with new bulbs.

Thanks for tip though. I've used aluminum polish and my buffer on faded ones before, but it's slow going.

I installed that kit. It’s nice and I have adequate lighting. Apparently the Blue Hi Beam dash light doesn’t
work after installing this kit. Let me know how it goes. I’ve been lazy and am kinda used to things not working anyways.
BTW - for retina burners see FYRLYT

Nice. They arrived... everything I've ordered in the last month is "delayed due to natural disaster" :bang:

Still can't believe Toyota sells that for 69 bucks. Last time I bought the hella h4 pots at lordco it was well over 100 bucks with s*** bulbs you paid another 50 to upgrade, and not an inch of wire, and certainly no relays.

Toyota's normal pricing should have that kit over 200.

It's strange. Not complaining tho.

Am I reading it correctly that it’s $69 for the pair of headlights, wiring, relays, etc?

I’m going to have to go buy a set at that price. I’ve got some LED headlights in it, but for that price I’ll move them to the off-road housings and run 4 headlights. :D

Yep, I believe so. Bradford got a kit for me too, but I haven't seen it in person yet.

Can you get a light pod/mount to mount a standard headlight to a bumper?

Might be a good use for my old h4s when I install my kit.

Or hell for that price buy a second kit.

These Dick Cepek super off-roaders seem to be the same diameter… that said, I’ve not tried yet.

I usually use Autosol to polish aluminum… it does a great job by hand or machine.

Any polishing compound will work… Autosol is just my go to one.

I’ve always figured a set of DOT approved headlights should be legal for street use… whereas the 150w halogens are heat magnets.
Yeah you'd think. Lots of vehicles with 4 headlights out there.

But that's probably too sensible.

I have a couple small LEDs in my 60 bumper that are crazy bright. I'm sure I'll have a horseman give me s*** for them at some point.

My bumper has lots of mounting points, but I don't want to put some anachronistic led space ship thing on there.

I have a set of those tractor light mounts, they are full rubber housing but they hold a
standard headlight.

Any idea where they came from?

I've done a few searches, just seem to find that "Dietz style" thing I posted, and they're all metal by the look of it, and a bit too much money for an empty pod.

Some motorcycle headlight pods might work ok too. Bit cheaper.

There's only so much I'd spend on this before it'd just make more sense to just buy a new set of lights.

Not that I ever drive the 40 in the dark...

Got the kit installed and tested it out last night works great!

Your correct, my dash blue high beam indicator light isn’t working now either. Didn’t get a chance to look into it because I got drunk. If I get it figured out I will let you know.
