Three years later....the third time on this topic..and the answer remains the same:

Re-gear your differentials.

No, really....

Re-gear your differentials.

No cheap solution. Re-gear to 4.11 and switch to the 4:1 Orion? Get a little hi-way and keep the low gears.

Now thats a memory.

Denofearth reading post #18 you have dropped from 39" to 37" tires, that won't have helped.

Ok !!! I have a GPS...that sounds easy ..Dah!!!!!! I will give it a try!! and get back...
Thanks, Guys!!

GPS results

Ok!! I ran the truck with my GPS, @ 60 mph I am turning 3000 rpm (give or take 100) Now I can't figure out if 488's would still be good on highway and good offroad low end. Or my other option...put origional 411's back in?
I don't drive it to offroad events, I pull it so thats not the issue...I JUST like to drive it around town. Unfortunately, here in Houston there is nothing but Freeway, and that is 65 mph...everywhere!!!! so even @ 60 mph.. I am going way to slow for safety (idots travelling 75-80..like I do when I am not in my LC).
So...I would hate to have to put 411 back in and not be satisfied with it;But It does get scarey when 18 wheelers are on your bumper!!! and all you can see is the buggs he has killed!!!on his bumper..

I am already @ 1:1 with 465 gear box going to an orion would not help me on top end ..unless you mean the orion for the bottom end?!!!!

Poser!! I can't help it when I drink...I think...when I think..I drink?!!!!!its a viscous circle...
I am not a thinker, no wait I am a drinker..so I must be a thinker..I think?!!

Anyways I drink therefore I am!!!!!
There!!

You can't build a rig for hardcore trail use and expect it to be a great highway rig.... and if you are afraid to turn a SBC at 3000?

Buy a daily driver and accept that you have build a toy that does not play on the highway the way you want it too.

The answers to your questions have been put out already... back in 2007!

At 3000 rpm with a true 39 inch tall tire you will be doing 65mph....

Same speed to rpm relationship as a stock FJ60 on 29 inch tires... with a 2F.

And 55mph will be about 2500 rpm.

These are not numbers to worry about.

This is from simply crunching the numbers and from GPS in a rig with..... a 465 and 5.29s and 39.5 inch boggers. Trust me, these are correct.

Mark...

I see now that you have re-tired to 37s?
step in the wrong direction if you are concerned about highway RPM.
and throwing the numbers off a little from what I tossed out just now...
3000rpm will give your 62mph
still not a problem at all

Mark.

With 5.38's, 4:1 t-case, on 40's I knew I'd have the same problem so I went with an OD tranny. I see three options for you

1. Get an OD tranny or an OD for your current tranny like a Ranger splitter. I use to have a truck with a splitter on the sm465

2. Regear

3. Buy bigger tires

Nobody is going to have any other miracle answers than what's been posted.

I am not trying to get blood from a rock here!. I know I have a steep gear set up, I got the gears when I had the 6 cyl. and stock gears and 39's and stock tranny...I don't have a problem going down the hiway @ 60-65 mph I thought the rpms were too high. If what you say SB v8 4 blt main can handle it I can too!!.. I can put this dog to sleep. Now next issue!! lol
Thanks for the help!!

Wow!!!! a Gear Calculations web site even I can understand and use!!!! Thanks Nice I am going to save that!!!
Thanks again!!

Have you redone your diff ratios yet?

Well I looked @ the chart!! Seems that 3000 rpm is not bad for my engine. Other than fuel milage(ha ha) it should be ok!
