Hi all
I am new here first timer so be gentle :D any how I have a 78 fj 55 that’s making some really odd noise I have just recently replaced the bearings and high side output gear in the transfer box and now have a ticking noise in 3rd slight 4th hard core rhythmic tap tap tap at first I thought it was the selector forks not seated but on inspection forks are fine but reverse main shows signes of dental work I am kinda stumped  at the moment can any one point me in the right direction

Cheers

Dave..

Hi all:

if you have replaced one of the gears with a new piece and mated it to a used gear you should expect to hear some "break-in" noise until the two gears have "mated" to each other.

I'd suggest replacing the gear box oil after about 500 miles of driving. Make sure that the drain plugs in the gearboxes have magnets on them to collect minute metal bits.

Regards,

Alan
