Thread started, its even "official" so must be legit :hmm:

Bernie lets see what you come up with for the clutch, maybe odor eater makes one for the smell?

The knock on effect of installing these turbos is not surprising, the shortcomings of standard equipment soon becomes apparent. I am left wondering if an exhaust (over 3") and injector upgrade thread will soon grow around this turbo along with all the others....

Once upon a time I was happy with my std turbo, 14lb boost, 3" exhaust, little bit extra fuel and cross country top mount. And you know what? life was good and I felt complete, but nooooooooo Graeme just had to come along and reboot my power addiction.

Now i work a second job to fund intake, intercooler and pump improvements then stay awake at night e-stalking you fellow addicts till three in the morning......... :flipoff2:

I'm waiting for the "The Official Greame is a bastard who tricked me into spending all my coin thread" thread, cant be far off now

I've been telling my self I'm happy with my stock 1HZ in the HZJ105, I nearly had myself convinced, but then all these official threads start popping up!
:bang::bang:

Wait until everyone get right into the unofficial Gturbo threads then Dave, when the "I gotta have one one of those too, to go with the new turbo", I know it's a real addiction problem, I'm telling you from experience. as well.

It is addictive, even for me. In fact, I think its infectious too..... But its so much fun :grinpimp:

1HDT - Excessive blowby at high boost equals rebuild?

Well I have loved having my BadBoy Gturbo running at 26psi but it is causing so much oil to be blown past the oil rings (300mls every 100kms if worked hard) that I am now thinking about having the engine rebuilt. Under about 18psi only a small amount of oil used to get by. Does anyone have any recommendations about having a 1HDT rebuilt to deal with such high boost? Is it possible? It's at 350,000kms. By the way it seems to run fine otherwise (since the oil is going into a container and not the air intake and I just pour it back in).
Cheers!

Plumb your catch can back into the sump and stop worrying.

As long as compression tests come back okay that is.

@ForealBoreal: Wouldn't closing up the vent just blow the seals somewhere else without some sort of pressure release?
@Dougal: How could you plumb it back in without feeding pressure back into the engine?
Unfortunately I am not a mechanic.

no issues so far for me....:meh:

The pressure is vented through the gas flow. To keep the oil draining you do need enough vertical between the catch can and the sump. A small pipe which leads in below oil level is best. My Isuzu has this setup from the factory.

A hard pipe from the sump to up above the oil level. This keeps the exit sealed with oil (so air doesn't bow up the tube and oppose the oil coming down) and keeps the perishable tubes above the oil level so if anything happens to the rubber your oil doesn't all drain out the sump.

I sold my 1HZ 80 series and got a 1HD-FT 80 series, virtually picked it up and drove it strait to Graeme to have a Gturbo badboy, 3 inch ex, and XXi air box fitted, its a high km motor (475xxxkm) and the previous owner said he had been using castrol oil tho im not sure what type or viscosity, when I went to pick it up it had huge blow by. I changed the oil to shell rimula X that I had been advised to use in my 1HZ after it was fitted with a switzer turbo, enjoyed the new amazing acceleration with the 1HD-FT auto round town, and now it dosnt have any smokey blow by out the breather, and you can feel just the slightest puff on your hand... maybe the oil ring was claged up with whatever oil the previous owner used, and the 15w 40 rimulaX combined with a bit of hard acceleration re-seated the ring, not sure, but it took me from 'crap im going to have to rebuild this' to not worried about it.. so may be worth a try?

So what boost do you guys run on your Gturbos? I really want to keep mine at 26psi because it goes like the clappers! The mechanic suggested lowering it to reduce the blowby until the rebuild is done.

mine is set to 22psi at the moment, why dont you change the oil to the rimulaX 15/40 and drive it for a week and see if the blow-by settles down?

Just an update. Plumbing the drain plug from the first catch can to the sump just under the oil level fixed the problem completely. Absolutely no oil has got to my second catch can at all! No changes to boost required. Still running 26PSI.

I recently contacted GTurbo in reference to upgrading for my 13bt. I was given a reply that they currently did not support this platform and to check back next year? Can anyone provide an update?

This is a bit over due. Just came back from tuning and a very fun run.

1HZ with a Grunter boosting 14.5psi no intercooler as of yet.

Thoughts so far. Holy **** it is a a completely different truck. It pulls like a freight train and I am all smiles, this was exactly what I was hoping for.

Smooth acceleration and power throughout the rpm band, its very drivable. There is a good sized hill that I have always driven at 80km/hr and been pretty light on the pedal just to go easy on the engine. I can now mat my foot to the floor and it will accelerate HARD up the hill from 80kms/h all the way to 110 at the top and about 1000deg F on the pyro (pre turbo).

It definately feels quicker than my HDJ81, how much quicker I don't know.
I think it would beat it for sure, pulls WAY harder.

I still have to turn up the fuel some more as my max egt is 1100F but i lost my little socket while tuning on the side of the highway.

Boost gauge will start to move at ~1200 rpm. and I can get it to full boost (14.5lbs) at 1600 rpm if I drive it like an ass hat. Usual driving 10-12psi at that rpm with some load and full boost at roughly 1800-2000 rpm with usual driving habits.

The ceramic coating I think is helping too with cool down time. After a hard run around it will drop to 300 deg in seconds, I am shocked as my old hdj81 took way more time than that from what I remember. I am really happy I did this so far.

Intercooler will be the next and potentially the last performance engine mod I have in store for her. Should drop off the EGTs a bit more and have the ability to turn up the fuel some more. My final goal is to have ~150rwhp on skinny 33s, this should be possible with my fuel pump in my eyes as the 10mm pump on the pre 99 1hz engines max out at this range or a little above.

Graeme this turbo kicks ass, I want another one for my 75 at some point, maybe a little bit higher spec one
Anyone wanting to fit one to a 1HZ this is the turbo to do in my eyes, as I said it is a COMPLETELY different truck now.

You are now leading me into serious temptation ! My 06/99 HZJ 75 RV only has 58K kms on the clock and .... Greame, do you ship to ZA ?

I called Graeme last night and left a "voice to text" mail on his phone. Hoping he got all the message. I'm told I talk really fast an I did my best to slow down while speaking.

Plus, my Austrailian is a bit rusty :hillbilly:
I'll update as soon as I hear back

Finally!!
I got a hold of Graeme via facebook. Dropped him a PM and he got back to me. (very Busy) . Sent him some pics and...No problem with the 13Bt And during the month of April they're giving 10% off.
New Unit Is utilizing the new fan design and is good to 30lbs boost :)
With the current USD AUD exchange. Now's a good time to shop ;)
