My 2002 LC has an intermittent smell of gas to the point where the entire garage smells. It doesn't happen all the time and I can't smell gas inside the cabin. Any thoughts or just take it in for evaluation?

You get a lot of hissing noise when you remove the gas cap? Tanks are bad about getting over pressurized.

Yes. And when I remove the gas cap at the station, I can see the fumes rushing out. could it be something as simple as needing to replace the gas cap. Also, I live in Phoenix, so it has been quite hot recently if this could contribute.

I think it’s a stopped up charcoal canister from what I’ve read in the past- it’ll need replacing, but I’m no mechanic..lol

Sounds like it could be simple (charcoal canister) or more complicated. Is it safe to drive until I can get it into my mechanic?

Sure, just don't light up a cigar next to it.

It will be interesting to see what your mechanic comes up with, be sure to report back. I think it's a complex problem that rarely has a simple/easy fix.

Throw a new gas cap on it, an wait until the weather cools down before you spend money chasing this down. My wife's Audi does this every summer.
