Well I have to recommend the guys at Dillion Supply off Poole Rd. for any steel requirements. They let me peruse their scrap pile and I walked off with a nice big piece of plate and some long already bent stock for nothing. I'm going to see what I can do about replacing the rear passenger side gusset and part of the frame that is non-existent.
They had a bunch of rectangular tube they would have let me have, but I was just a little too late...

Brian, I have that section of frame from Mike's 80 Bumper build if you want to try that, you could maybe incorporate the crossmember/gusset with the additional piece. It's in Jerry's garage so let me know your thoughts.

The pieces from Greg's bumper build are here too.

Yeah, I'll take them. Fixin' the 40 with 80 pieces, there's recycling for you...

I measured the inside of the frame and it seems to be 3 1/4 inches high roughly. What are the 80 dimensions, do you know off hand?

4 5/8 x 2 3/16 measured. Looks like it might not be what you need. We can make whatever you need from plate. Let me know when you want to work on it.

I can do it whenever the second party wants to help! My schedule is open Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. I'm not sure if I have enough plate to do everything, but we can do the one side. I've got my brother's welder, flux MIG 115V. But I am game for some pro help, might learn me something... And I do have a few SNPA's in the fridge..

Might be nice to determine my vibe going on. I'm not sure if my caster angle is the best, but I know part of the reason. No shimmy in the steering, I feel it from underneath like it's coming from the rear driveshaft...

Very possible you will get a little driveline vibration from the rear driveline with the lift installation. If i recall we shimmed the front axle but I don't think we did in the rear. You want to point the rear pinion at the transfer case pinion, we may be able to add the shims you had left over, if I recall you had two sets.

Also I would recommend you weld with a slighter higher voltage/amperage for good penetration than you might achieve with that welder, esp. on the frame at such a critical point like the spring hangers.

I am out for this weekend (headed to my folks'). Sorry.

As for the vibration, make sure if you had your drivelines apart that they are put back together in phase. Also, which direction did you put the shims in the front? Fat end should be in front.

We did install the front shims the correct way, but amongst the "Fall" we did have to remove the driveshaft and to be honest I completely forgot in trying to get it back on the ground to ensure it was in phase.

Good point.

Well, I looked at the shims and they are placed fat side towards the back, but they are underneath the springs, not underneath the axle. Will that make a difference? I will check to make sure the u-joints are matched up...

Ok, so I haven't corrected the driveshaft issue, yet. Nor, have I addressed the spring perch/gusset yet. I should tackle that tomorrow. But I changed the diff fluid, not too bad, I was expecting something really bad, like no fluid whatsoever. Well, that's not entirely true, because I had been slightly leaking diff fluid, so something was in there. But I do know I replaced much more than I let fall out...

And I've been contemplating on this kayak trailer for a year or so, now I've got some motivation, plus I'm entered in a race down in SC. More to come tomorrow...

And for some readon I didn't hit upload on the last post...

That's nice looking.... so you did fly up there and get it, congrats.

I didn't know the 80's came in black I thought that was a lx450 thing :meh:

I was asking about the same thing. I don't think I've seen a black 80 with silver trim. I'll have to do some research...
Yep flew up saturday morning 7:15am, looked it over, spent a few hours with JimC talking LC's, and then headed home. Saw Jon's carb on his desk...
Got back into town around midnight...
