Highland,

Funny you lived off Guy, I drive down that way everyday to drop my daughter off at daycare (Winston), as I work in Clayton. Did you live N of 70 or S of 70?

Thanks for the support for everyone else, I'll see you at the next meeting.

Also, anyone know of a place to get some custom paint made up for rattle cans? As you can see I sprayed actual JD green on the sides (better than primer gray), but you can tell the difference. I do have the color code and formula...

Brian

Uhh....If memory serves.....that would be south ? Coming from the beltline you would make a right on Guy rd......."White Oak Plantation"........

I could tell you some funny stories about 4 wheelin' in what is now, the nice new neighborhood beside White Oak......Lee something ?, I think it was...right behind my house.

It was actually a pretty fun little set of trails back there before they started building houses.....:frown: [Building was delayed for years because the builder lost his but after 9-11]

Looks good man! Keep pluggin' away at it.

Brian - The 40 has come a long way since I have seen it. If you are planning on coming to the HAMON in March, I'll bring a extra Key for the white 40.

Just a quick update, but no pictures. Dropped off the cruiser for exhaust work, and sounds/looks great. Only question is, exhaust exits the back, underneath one of the bumperettes. I'm not sure if I'm digging it, but I'll let it go for now. The guy doing it knows an Eddie Wilson (?) with a Dune Beige 40, up in Raleigh area, anyone know of him? Told him I didn't, but then again I know a lot of you by screen names, and not real names.. :(
Oil seals on the front axles were leaking, and it just coincided with my company bonus, so I've having the work done, instead of attempting it myself. They'll tear into the axles this week. Ordered up new 5125 Bilsteins all around, and that should do it for my wallet for now...
I'll probably be bringing wire and a multimeter, and trying to finish the wiring at the HAMOM. Still no running, interior, or turn signals. Any ideas other than grounds?

See you guys in Sanford! and OBX....

Latest Update

Just a little re-cap, even though most saw the Cruiser in Rodanthe:

After all was said and done (and bonus spent)

New Exhaust/muffler
New CD player and XM radio (at least the trip down there was loud music)
New wires and distributor cap (broke terminal pulling one of the wires)
New front axle rebuild (bearings, seals, gaskets), drums turned, new wheel cylinders, lines and pads
Rear cylinders, lines and pads, drums turned
New Master cylinder
New Valve cover gasket
4 new Bilstein shocks (love 'em)

After OBX:
water pump leaks
slave cylinder leaks

HAVE To Do:
Debating on the total clutch rebuild kit from JTO, (new master and slave, and new SS line) any opinions?

New water pump, and gasket, new hoses, new thermostat and water temp sensor, radiator check and flush, new belt

:steer:

Need to do:
New differential seals and lube (yes lockers have crossed my mind)
New steering box gasket (yes PS has crossed my mind)
Rust removal

So, just a little update.

Pulled the old clutch cylinder and slave, replaced it with the JTO slave kit. It works, but I need to work some air out (way too much play, and a double/triple pump is necessary).

Pulled the radiator, water pump, thermostat housing, hoses, and fan. Have the parts except the water outlet gasket, and a hose, but they're on the way. Radiator had some rust in the bottom, but all in all, not bad. Going to replace everything while it's torn apart.

Big update on future status: I've taken a new position with my company, and it will send me over to Denmark for 7 weeks over the course of May, June, and July. So, very little cruiser work will be done. I'm trying to get this little bit done so I can drive it around for a little while before I leave. Good thing is, I'll have a little extra cash from the promotion to put into it. I'll be able to check MUD, but I won't make it to the next few meetings. :crybaby:

Pictures to come later....

Congrats on the promotion! Have the radiator hot tanked while it's out. Did you rebuild the master/slave or replace? You can gravity bleed that system if you don't have a helper...just fill the master and crack the slave ever so slightly and let her sit. Check and make sure the fluid doesn't run dry and have a can or pan to catch the drips. Then close off the slave and fill the master to the full level. Should be good to go.

Thanks Ramon, Nope put in a new conversion kit from JTO and still having a problem getting it bled, gravity bled and still too much travel. Going to have to wait until August I guess... Good thing is no leaks from the waterpump, thermostat, hose upgrade. Had the radiator boiled out at N. Raleigh Radiator, just to make sure. Running on the C line rather than in the middle! Used that rad. shroud from the booty I got from your storage space also, Thanks again!

Next paid upgrade... Hell Creek Suspension, if Addicted is still 100% for them, and install the new steering stabilizer I bought

Next time, no money upgrade: Install rear side markers and hopefully that fixes the turn signal problem (per Rutbeer advice), clean up and paint new fenders, finish off the CD player install and CB install, put the jump seats in... oh and the underside rust..

Brian,

I am going to do SOA on my Cruiser in the next couple of months and will be ditching my suspension stuff. If you want to hold off, you could buy my springs and shackles cheap, maybe $200 for everything. The springs work well if you set it up the way I have mine now, ie move the rear shackle hangers inboard and front spring hangers forward. Of course I have the welder and have done this to mine, so I would be more than willing to help.

Ramon

I'm interested... If you want my flattened springs for the SO, then I'm sure a weekend get together will work... I just hope I've got some good steel that isn't too rusted in order to do the conversion...

You going to do it in your driveway? Let me know, I'll still be checking MUD while I'm in DK... I leave this Saturday...

Thank You Sir!

Next question. Now that Ramon (and his father-in-law) so kindly helped me with taking off the front springs, and rolling the axle out, is it easier to do a disc brake conversion with the axle off the frame, or does it really matter? Does it need to be in place for mock up. By the way this is for Cruiser #2... :p

Sorry another post with no pics...

Recent activity on the Green Machine, finally bled and adjusted the clutch. Got good pedal travel... Water pump seems good, and all the minor leaks have bee shored up from the hose ends.

Got a safari bikini top, that I would love to put on, but don't have the manpower to get the top off. I might do it this weekend.

Going to try and put on a noseguard/stinger on the front.

Will await Ramon's springs to do the suspension upgrade, no hurries Ramon!

Pictures will come...

So just a little update. Still haven't taken the top off to install the bikini. I'm wondering if I should just wait until next year... And still no new pictures..

But, the most problematic of my "upgrades" is after looking at my tail light wiring, still not finished, I noticed my rear bumper gussets are rusted and the spring hangers are pushing through. One good jostle, and I may have my rear wheels WAYYYY up in my wheel wells....

I was planning on a suspension upgrade in the near future anyway, I just wasn't planning on doing any frame modification/repair. From what I can tell, rear gussets are available from cruisersolutions, and you can replace the rivets with grade 8 bolts. I'm just going to have to take a hard look at the frame (probably with some assistance) and see if it's worth the effort. If not, build up of #2 will be sooner than later....

I may have to take you up on your offer, if there's enough good metal on the frame to actually attach it to... It's not looking too good from my eye.
