Darin went over my truck with a fine-tooth comb (even pointed out a missing license plate bulb cover). In addition to the front axle service, tie rod, locker issues and baseline, I also needed new brakes and rotors all the way around and my VC had seized and had to be removed. Also, a few sensors had to be replaced to get the front and rear lockers working again. I've got a short list of small DIY projects to do and I'll need a rear axle service before too long but all-in-all this truck is rock solid.

Darin, thank you brother! You do excellent work.

Glad to see you are happy with it now. Now exercise those lockers/ transfer case more often than the last owners. Hope the list was not too long for you. Sorry it went a bit higher than we wanted, but it is good to go now for awhile. And you have functioning lockers again.

Now bring it around to the barn in December.

Great to hear, Darin is very detailed and methodical...

Almost too darn detailed though. But where some shops are good at numerous vehicles i just specialize in cruisers so it is easier for me and better for the customer.

Sad part is i have had numerous people ask me to work on their jeeps and i have to say no. I can work on them but i do not know them like i do older cruisers.

Nothing wrong with specialization. At some point, going a different route will be enough of a distraction that eventually leads to slacking or constant studying. Not like that for some people but it is for me. I've made some difficult decisions to not branch out or take on additional types of work that could pay pretty well but it helps me stay on top of my game at what I do. It's better to be one of the best than it is to be just another.

The time has come to do some more repairs and start doing some mods. W00t!

On the list in the coming weeks:

- Rear axle service
- AC fan clutch needs to be replaced

- Rear bumper / Tire carrier from Hardline Fabrication
- OME 2.5" Medium Load lift
- 33" All-terrains
- Mech-less head unit

After exhaustive research here on the forums I've learned that every single brand of tire is both the absolute best and, paradoxically, the absolute worst. Therefore, I've settled on [STRIKE]Nitto Terra Grapplers[/STRIKE] Cooper S/T-Maxx's based on [STRIKE]price and warranty[/STRIKE] various reviews and looks.

I'll post up pics as things progress. I'm taking the truck to Darin for most of the work since I'm a <1  kind of guy. No shame though... looking forward to having a trail-worthy rig and joining the club on some rides in the future.

First-of-its-kind Customer Bumper & OME Lift

As seen here:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/vendor-marketplace/682701-new-80-series-rear-bumper.html

Stan at HFS hooked me up with this awesome tube bumper. It was well worth the long drive down to Chesnee. The distance is really to Stan's advantage since I figured I better get a set of sliders to avoid another long drive in the future. :D

While the truck was with Stan I got frequent updates with pics to make the anticipation less painful. The workmanship of the bumper and components is top notch.

The truck is currently down at Canuck's Cruisers getting fitted with the OME lift and having the rear axle serviced. Apparently there was NO grease in the rear wheel bearings... it seems the axles are supposed to be serviced at least once every 15 years or 240K miles.

I've got my Cooper S/T-Maxx's on order and should be installed over the weekend. Here's how my 80 is looking right now riding on goofy looking 265 Michelin's:
