By no means do I endorse or recommend this to ANYONE on an open, non-closed coarse, but here's some info for you speed daemons.

*** I hold myself harmless of any negligence caused by the information below ***

If anyone is curious, the 5.7L V8 Land Cruiser 200 can easily reach it's top governed speed of 130. Very surprisingly, it is QUITE stable at that speed and drives extraordinarily well. It was in either 5th or 6th gear at about 3500-4500 RPMs. The driver does not remember the exact tach reading, but it was nowhere near redline.

Without a governor, the LC200 could easily do 140-160mph, but I wouldn't push it.

It's quite surprising to me at least that a 6000+ lbs. vehicle can even reach those speeds and remain stable. Not to mention that it handles amazingly well off-road and on-road as well. It's truly a "Land Cruiser" for all purposes with the utmost versatility.

Have fun guys and stay safe!!!

There's a governor?

Well, you've discovered what the Middle Eastern market has known for quite a while, even without the 5.7. I don't think there is a governor on the Gulf Spec model (eyes on the road). And in areas where there are no limits (except for the limits of traction, physics, gravity, etiquette, sanity) you can enjoy this even more.

We commonly cruise along, and before realizing it, get the beep beep of the 120KPH (~75MPH) warning. You think, "120 already?", and you have a lot of gas pedal travel to go. Sometimes we go. :steer:

My point about the Middle East market is that in some places, Land Cruisers are the only SUVs of its size. There are a lot of them. It is a well known entity.

Too often, after driving 100 km or so, the highway literally ends in construction and you are grateful for the multi terrain ABS, the full time 4 wheel drive, the clearance, the KDSS. Because sometimes you have to share the road with construction equipment that heaps up moguls of dirt or gravel in the way. You creep along at 20KPH behind sedans, listening to the great stereo, then pull off the road to go cross-country across empty fields to bypass the stuck traffic, then merge where the pavement starts again.

Only in a Land Cruiser.

I think he meant 130 miles per hour.

Good to know :D

Although my friend has a video of him sitting at 180 mph (290 km/h) in his C6 Corvette and being overtaken by a turbocharged 100 series and turbocharged Patrol - both going in convoy!!!

I think I'm quite happy with the 160-180 km/h speeds... no need for any more than that, particularly with off road tires.

One thing I really do love about the middle east no other country can come close to is that if theres traffic in a highway, you can always take the dirt roads :)

My 4Runner always took the dirt roads even if theres no construction or traffic in the middle east lmao. Just to enjoy freedom ;)

I'd like to see that video!!! I would say thats hard to believe. My thinking is the 100 Series Land Cruser would hit it's aerodynamic threshold and no amount of power would push it that fast. I hit this wall in a LX470 at 105 MPH , no where near red line it just would not go faster do to Aerodynamics and if your friend is being overtaken at 180mph I'd say that's impossible!
Got a link?

With enough horsepower, you can do anything, streamlined shape or not. Engine may not last very long though..........not to mention the transmission etc.

Ive had my 100 up to around 110MPH, hit cruiser control and stayed there for about 3 minutes. I knew I could push 120, but then again I didnt want to get arrested and my cruiser impounded. and i had to fill up right after. I was carrying no wieght, stock setup. and just me (160LBS). Mines a 2000 with 105K on the clock, still fast as new.

Wait, so at 120MPH you were worried about getting arrested but you thought the State Troopers would be cool with 110MPH?!

Hmmmmmm. NOT!

I'm pretty sure the Staties would have hooked you up and booked you for 110MPH. So, next time, just keep the pedal to the metal.

haha yea, ill get away with 110, but at 120 hell no. i would be so relieved if that hapenned. haha good one though

I figured 110 for about 3 minutes was pushing my luck. So before going any further I slowed down. Going that fast for 3 minutes is a lot of distance, which means even more area for a nice trooper to sit. Ill see what I can top out at sometime before thanksgiving. then post back. Ill try to just get there, see when it stops pushing due to aerodynamics and power and then slow down quickly. Ill see if I can find the picture of my speedo while hiting 110. I think i was at 4000 revs. and when i let off it shifted up. I think i was in 3rd doing 110. Dought it but thats what I remember. Maybe it was my mind that shifted and made me slow down.

For the record, and for your saftey and the safety of others, I think you should keep the speed down. You never know what can happen (blown tire, animal in the road, etc.).

Keep it at the limit plus 10 to keep it safe.

OK, yes I am a big wuss.

If your using the capabilities of a 200, plus having to mount lights ontop due to the types of roads you drive on. your not a wuss. and wuss would be somebody who muys a 200, or 100. and does nothing but attend your local grocery store and garage 24/7, as for speed. I was a tad (just a tad) nervous. i hit a dear tonight on my way back to school. was going round a corner, it ran out and looked right at me. I had all my lights going (KC 100W, and HID from XenonDepot Highs going) and I hit the brakes hard, rear end came out, and it put its head down, and I tagged him going about 10, theres a little paint missing upfront, but alot more from him is missing. I felt horrible, but my hundie (100) had red racing stripes, so i had to wash it. I take a lot of measures when I go out and drive crazy. Tire pressure, tread condition, I only have 6K on those LTX + speed rated for 150 and have a pretty descent load rating. So wasnt worried bout that. State trooper+ arrested is a larger risk than a deer making accross a 10 lane highway and finding the front end. But hey... IT JUST HAPPENED

haha :)

as for speed, if you come down to atlanta, jump on GA 400 around sunday at 5pm, the average speed is around 80-90MPH. no lie, some cruise at a nifty 100. I have seen it. As for 110. I slowly creep by people. Its a crazy fun interstate to get on in a fast car. Lots of tuners and high performance cars out at that time. But thats no challenge for a cruiser. :) :) :)

Oh great, more speed patrols in here. I say pedal to the metal at your own risk! Just dont do it near other fellow motorist.
