does anyone know where i can get the little fender mount mirror for an 80 series ?

This was an OEM JDM part, try Japan 4x4 or perhaps MOT but rumour has it he is not in Japan any more? FWIW many JDM owners in the UK take them off, might be worth looking up on one of the forums over the pond?

regards

Dave

I've actually been looking for one or something similar to the one on the 70 series Cruiser's that has two mirrors. One shows your blind spot behind and to the side, and the other mirror actually shows the front bumper. Could be real useful on the trail.
Cruiserparts.net has a few fender mirrors for 80 series as of this posting. http://shop.cruiserparts.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_29_199_1301&products_id=22510
The first attached photo is one for the right side of an 80 series, they also have a left side, both I believe are powered (though good luck working with the fender - I hear they're a pain). Little pricey though - $223.
The second photo is one of the 70 series.

I had considered adding this when I first got my truck. After a lot of thought, I was more worried about it hitting something, getting torn off and the extra damage to the fender

This was never fitted to the South African models. But I order one from Toyota last and it arrived last week. Cost about $40 incl the little cover. Trying to work out how to fit it to the curve of the fender is a bit of a mission

I can tell you from experience, since my truck came with the oem fender mirror...it's completely useless. It aims down at the road and is for parking in Japan. It helps me confirm I'm still in between the road lines, that's about it. When offroading branches get caught on it then whip across the fender damaging the paint worse then if they just slid across normally. If I ever respray my truck that mirror is going in the garbage and the holes are being welded up.

Seems like a good thing for someone to steal too.
Like the old Mercedes and Cadillac Hood Ornaments...

You won't be stealing it easily. I had one on a cruiser and my Surfs have them. I've lost my temper and tried to smash one off the surf and now have a fxxxed fender with a stump of bastard mirror still attached. I do agree they are useless crap.

They are not adjustable, and will provide your passenger with a nice view of the side of the truck and the ground beside your truck. It will provide the driver of a LHD vehicle with nothing useful. As stated, only useful for keeping track of the edge of your lane when getting used to driving a RHD, and parallel parking on the left side of a one way street, in a RHD vehicle. Save your money.

The 80 series one is soooo easy to steal. Less then 30 seconds and it could be gone. I'm going to make a video of me hitting a home run with mine. :D
