1977 FJ-40 will not pass smog check, Fuel vapor separator is cracked, can't seen to locate one. Anyone have one they could give up or know of any alternative fixes?

Got a pic? I may have one off'n a 1975.

OK, that part looks like what I have. I'll hunt it up and confirm. 12 pack of Deschutes Inversion India pale Ale :grinpimp: ($15) plus shipping?

BSevans: Do you think the company still has your drawings there in Georgia? That was an elegant solution and I would really like to do this mod. I would pay a lot more than $78 to do it.

Slave cylinder location on 3 on tree transmission.

Hi all. As you may know I'm restoring a 1970 FJ40 with a 1974 1.5 F Engine. The transmission is just the same from the 1970 F engine.

The shop says that the slave cylinder does not go on the driver's side but rather in the passenger side. As far as I recalled (and I think the hose may prove me correct) is that the slave cylinder was relatively close to the clutch cylinder and it sat on the driver's side of the transmission. Am I wrong? Is there a bracket missing to install it there?

This is the only good picture I have where the slave cylinder hits the fork.

Thanks!

The company was bought out and they no longer have the drawings. Somehow, when I built my new desktop I lost the AutoCAD files that I thought I had backed up to my Network drive. Having said that, I do not think it is that big a deal to replicate this item. It is a 3"OD tube that you can come up with the remaining layout using the photos in the thread I posted as a guide.

what's the insides look like?

what's the insides look like?

It looks like the inside of a 3"OD Aluminum tube that has tapped caps welded to each end. The purpose of this factory device is to let the fuel vapor condense and drain back into the tank.

So it's like a soda can size? And hollow on the inside, no tubes or chambers like the oem separators?

Slightly larger than a soda can. Think of it as one large tube or chamber as I do not see any functional difference. The multiple chambers in the OEM FVS increase the surface area which is where the condensation occurs. The unit I designed has even more surface area for condensation to occur. Yes the fuel vapor separator allows excess tank pressure to bleed through the charcoal canister to the carburetor. The primary task of the separator is to keep liquid fuel from getting into the charcoal canister which would eventually cause the canister to fail in its functionality.
