How hard should it be to pump the mechanical fuel pump by hand? Its not pumping while installed but I can make it pump in my hands but it takes a lot of force. Trying to figure if the fuel pump is truly my problem

I have weak hands from damage, I doubt I could make it work with just my hands.
Put air to the line going to the tank - listen for bubbling at the gas cap. Undo the line at the carb, and put air to it, you should hear it blow out at the fuel pump. For less than $20 you can get a electric fuel pump for carbs delivered from ebay.

For like $50 you can build a electric fuel transfer pump. Filtered, fused, switched 10' electric lead that will plug into the cig lighter or clamp to the battery, 5' suction and 20' delivery hose. I have used it to drain tanks and replace a dead fuel pump.

I get about a 1/4" of easy movement in a spare I had lying around. How much movement of the arm is spec? How tall is that lobe on the cam? 2 tube or 3 tube fuel pump?
