What would be a good guess on fuel mileage on a FJ40 with stock engine and stock carb? Specify the type engine you have. Just wondering.

Bad or worse depending on the engine.

I guess I am around 10ish with a 350. I think I was about the same with the F engine.

10-15 seems like normal range.

With 350, Last time i checked 13-17 depending on mix of driving.

10-12 with a 2F(Weber Carb)

I was told the one I am looking at is a 1.5 engine from a 74 model with a 4spd., so I guess I can expect about the same.

Average for 2013 (so far) is 15.65 mpg. Best tank was 16.4 mpg, worst tank was 14.6 mpg. My 72 has a totally stock engine and I'm running tall skinny MT tires. Admittedly, I drive conservatively - I can't seem to be in a hurry when I'm driving my LC.

This is such a nice forum. Why would you spoil it with a question like that?

it all depends on how well it is all dialed in

but quite frankly, if fuel mileage is a serious concern, this vehicle is not for you

I am the same. About 16 conservative, all stock, 1969. I know in cold weather it is about 5-10 % worse.

Yeah, "FJ40 gas mileage" is an oxymoron. But that's not why we own them. My definitely non-stock 5.7 TBI gets around 16 mpg on-highway.

De-smogged 2F with stock Aisan carb.

10 mpg in a head wind.

14-15 mpg with a tail wind.

12 mpg average.

Exactly my results. No difference 4th or 5th gear.

Best tank with 2F/33x10.50 Toyo MT's - 16.8
Worst (winter) 10
It's a flying brick , street-legal tractor at best . Only thing with worst aerodynamics than an old semi-truck .
Honestly , most buildings would do better on fuel economy . Interesting part is it doesn't seem to matter much what engine you run , except some diesels .
Sarge

I'm running a 283 chevy small block behind an otherwise stock Toyota drivetrain. I get about 8-10 city and 12-14 highway, average closer to 10.

We buy them because they are unique, beautiful, bricks, not because they are environmentally (or financially) friendly!

with the clean vehicle or green vehicle communities we are known as FSP's

We are "Fuel Sucking Pigs"

We are hydrocarbon eco-vehicles :)

my eco-footprint in a 40 is much smaller than owning a newer vehicle instead, because the 40 has already been built and no additional energy needs to be expended to build another car

also, if you are really worried about eco-footprint, don't have kids

Here in delaware, I see it as promoting global warming. A couple million more gallons of arctic glacial melt, and I'll have beach front property!

Plus, someone has to make Joe Biden feel all high and mighty in his Prius.
