i have a problem with my 86 fj60. last week the engine started stalling and running rough. i thought that it was the fuel pump but the fuel pump seems fine. i also did a full tune up sat. i believe that it has something to do with the carb. the engine will idle fine for a few min. and then shut off. also when it is idling and i try to give it a liitle throttle it will bog down and shut off. this problem just started one day driving to work and now it will not move the cruise under its on power. any help to what it might be??? thanks jason

pull the choke when it starts to bog down. if it smooths out that would indicate a vaccum leak. I think the 60's carbs also have isssues with the idle silenoid - search 60 section for diagosis.

so with the vaccum leak do i need to check all the spagetti vaccum lines??? when i do pull the choke it kills the engine, so i will check the lines

with a vaccum leak, if you slightly pull the choke (not all they way out), it should smooth out the engine (choke reducing extra air that its getting via leak). another way to check is to spray carb cleaner around carb ,, if engine speeds up you found leak.
