Hello all. I have narrowed down the list of roof racks for my 100 to either a K9 or a Front runner. Can anyone pass along any knowledge of the differences between the two?

The price point is pretty similar. Possibly Front runner offers more accessories?

If anyone has photos they could post would be helpful as well. Any feedback is very appreciated.

Thanks

No experience with the K9 but I have the FR rack and it is sweet. Strong, light, many options and ways to set it up. The wind deflector at the front though is lame if you have the sunroof open. Otherwise zero complaints.

Cheers

Front runner no longer offers a full-length 100-series roof rack.

TexasCrane- According to the Front Runner tech on the phone this morning, they do still offer a full length rack

Any reason you don't want a Gamiviti? I'm biased, but the level of customization available is incredible.

Everyone seems happy with the FR. I just bought a gamiviti and will install tonight. It's a very nice rack from initial observations.
Will post up feedback

I like the flat and wide " planks " of the FR to make it possible to stand on.

Really like the FR rack, although it is a v1.0. I think what makes the rack though are all the accessories, plus anything you can jerry-rig and attach to it.

I've had both, the K9 is better built in
my opinion. Lower height, true flat top design, welded together vs bolt together,
Etc.
Front runner has more accessories, but I really don't need a way to secure my Dutch oven to my roof rack...

I know your question wasn't on the gamiviti, but it's whisper quite for the record. Great experience on the 1st drive today.

Also easier to clean the 100 roof.

That looks great!!!

It's on my wish list.

Mr Snappy - The weld vs bolt specifics are what I am looking for. Thanks so much !

Mine wasn't, and had this constant high pitch squeak that drove me nuts.
The other reason I like the K9 better it that there's no rim around the deck. I put my tent on backwards once and instead of a big hassle, I was able to just spin it around, without it catching on anything. Might be a small detail, but when you're wrestling a 100lb tent on the roof, it's kind of a big detail at the moment.

I prefer the no rim aspect as well. I feel it is more compatible with my needs.

Any new feedback on the Eezi-Awn K9?

I am really considering this and the Gamiviti.

I have the Feontrunner and am very happy.

Considering a FR Slimline II, wondering if FR did any sale/discount for the shopping season in the previous years? I don't have to have it until next summer - the older kid has been nagging for a canoe for a while.

I posted some pics of mine previously. During my shopping I seriously considered the Gamiviti, Front Runner and the Eezi Awn K9. I happened to be at Slee one day and noticed a Front Runner in the lot. I didn't like the looks as much in person (no offense to those that have them). I ended up ordering the K9 and have loved it ever since. It arrives freight shipping since it is fully welded. I've had my tent on it, lumber, ladders, etc. and it still looks like new.
I like:
  • All aluminum with wide slats.
  • Flat with no basket makes it easy to load and slide things on.
  • Can remove pretty easily.
  • Accessories are being added at a pretty regular rate.
Don't like:
  • The aluminum runners that you bolt to the roof can "roller coaster" a bit if you're not careful during install.
  • It's a bit more expensive than the other options.
