So I am in need of opinions as I am stuck between both options. I know this is highly subjective but this is my first Crutha and most of you guys have been there done that and I value your insight. Little back ground.. I have been slowly restoring this 2000 for the last year. I am almost done with phase 1. I messed up and feel I went way too small on tires really think the look I wanted was in the 34" tire range and probably with a tundra wheel.. but that's an issue for another day. The main issue I am running into is front end. I have added OME 2865 springs to the back and cranked up my torsion bars in front. Unfortunately I have maxed out the passenger side torsion bar and its as far as it can go. I am well with in the lift and droop specs and would like to bring it up a bit more so I don't feel like I am always leaning downhill in it. This has 285K on it so I don't know how tired the torsion bars are. Everything else in the suspension has been replaced. So do I re-index the torsion bars or do you think I should just get some OME torsion bars and call it a day? I am really not sure which direction to go. Sitting on the right slope it looks ok as you can see in second picture. Just really feels like I am facing downward.. when it was stock it felt much more level.

You’re starting with solutions. What’s the problem you’re trying to solve?

I am hoping to get a little more lift in the front end. I dont know if its worth re-indexing torsion bars with a lot of miles on them or to buy new OME torsion bars.

Re indexing is free and easy. If you're just trying to get 1/2" of so, that will probably do the job. I got much beefier torsion bars and front end stiffness went way up, not sure it was worth it.

I was leaning that way a bit the more I think of it. I think its just having original torsion bars with that many miles and re-indexing them.

What is your phase 2 plan? More weight in the rear, front or both?

also, speaking out of ignorance here, changing the "rake" will affect your steering....no?
you are right but I am well within spec and have more of a rake than factory. I am not looking to "level" I still want rake. I think I got myself lost in the weeds a bit, and I think the real sticking point was the only original suspension item being the torsion bars. I think at this point in the build its best to index the torsion bars and actually enjoy it for a bit.

Ultimately I want front and rear bumpers so I always knew I would need to go with beefier torsion bars and springs. I am not there yet, and at this point I just want to enjoy it. I guess I was more worried about re-indexing potentially tired torsion bars. Plus the idea of actually doing, but reading a thread on here it doesn't seem as bad to re-index as it does to add new anyway. so worth a shot. Not to mention part of this whole thing is because I didn't quite get it where I want. I blame this forum haha. I see so many amazing rigs and I had a set up in mind and I think I should have gone slightly bigger in tire department, but tried to stay with a load C so that made things like the front end get to me since it wasn't what I was hoping for.

Then I would just re-index the OE t-bar. Even the OE bar can can handle the additional weight of a light/medium bumper. You might not even want to change it out.

What size tire are you on? What's the offset on those wheels (are they Icon Rebounds)? Truck still looks alright. I love the look of 34"+ tires too, but I don't want to mess with mpg and comfort with my daily for now.

It sure is fun seeing all the nice rigs on here, but it's easy to get cold feet when you start pricing out all the cool-looking stuff. 1" body lift, radiator bracket, steering extension, 35s, wheels, re-gear, lower low range, dissent front & rear bumper with tire carrier, winch, gamiviti rack, wko sliders, gull wing rear window hatches with .50 cal pindle... 😂 that's the final phase for me. In reality, I might buy some sliders, maybe not.

Yeah I don't know about going up to 35s is where I am wanting.. although they always look proper on 35s. I just want function and comfort for the trails I do. What I have is absolutely sufficient, just had a look in mind. These are 285/70 17 (supposed to be 33s but in BFG terms they are only 32s)I think the Icons are 35 offset. I think 34" is the sweet spot.. they just always look so go with a little more air under the chassis. already got the .50 cal on order found some nice scratch and dent items haha.

Just reindex the originals. They really do not wear out, and can handle a lot more weight as well. I'm still running the original TBs with a front bumper and winch with no issues. Thicker torsion bars will also make the ride harsher.

OK good.. looks like I have a weekend project. Am I right in the OME (other torsion bars available) bars are just stiffer. Don't really offer any additional lift, correct?

The OME are the next stiffer TB available, I believe, and they go up from there with the other brands. All of them will lift the truck farther than you should for stability and ride quality.

This. Reindex the OEM's. I ran an ARB + 12K Steel Winch + Skid Plates on OEM T-Bars on my 2000. It was fine.
