Front Doors security

Is there a way to secure the front doors on a 62. I have power locks and lock the doors nightly, however every so often, someone is able to open the doors overnight. I've resorted to not leaving anything of value in the truck but it's becoming irritating.

Does anyone have suggestions/recommendations on hardening security other than using a remote locking system.

Mine does the same sometimes and i reach over and lock it. I always check all the doors and tailgate as it sits outside.

These trucks are really easy to get into, I won’t post why for obvious reasons, and I know this doesn’t answer your question but these days I just don’t leave anything good in the truck to get taken. I would rather have someone open a door and look around and find nothing rather then shattering a window or 1/4 glass that might take weeks to find a replacement (my front windows are rare Australian wing windows that I know would be hard to replace).
Someone pried open the rear liftgate on my friend’s 80 and ruined it. Have you tried to price out a rust free 60 series liftgate, door, etc lately?

And now that I’m thinking about it a few months ago someone did go in my Cruiser and my Nissan car, I had left them both unlocked that night by chance, they just rummaged around in the glove box add center console and took nothing.
Looked right over probably thousands worth of new Cruiser parts tools.

Door locks are kinda worthless on a 60.
Ignition lockout is priceless.

To prevent theft on mine, I use one of those club devices that locks between the steering wheel and the brake pedal. You could also setup an ignition cutoff switch that is hidden to prevent starting for nefarious purposes.

Brainstorming this for you.

1. Can you place a hidden camera nearby with view of the vehicle and approaching persons?
2. Can you put extra lighting around it?
3. A small flashing led light down in between the console and the seats (in an otherwise dark vehicle) might fool them into thinking you have an alarm.
4. Actually installing an alarm.
5. Why not a remote locking system?, many come with security features...ie flashing lights, audible alarms.
6. Lastly you could do like Mad Max and wire up an explosive device but you may end up blowing up the neighbors kids.

That would likely be against the law. Now, if a rattlesnake somehow made its way into the console... Well, I wouldn't know how that might happen. Those snakes seem to be able to get into any where!

Not at all.

From observation it looks as though a tool was inserted into the lock. It's pretty obvious as the lock cylinder face
is not flush and slightly bent/distorted.

I would agree, it's probably best to just have them look around and leave the truck intact.

There are a couple threads floating around with ignition kill switch recommendations that most have implemented. Other option is that if you know you are going to be gone for a bit, pop the hood and unhook the battery or remove all together.

I'll search for those threads on the forum. I use the truck regularly (not my daily) and need it available for use.

I have this:

and thinking about using (EDIT) one of the other wires as my ignition kill switch. wiring it to a hidden relay that I run the coil ignition wire thru. The arm & memory light that comes with the unit runs to the dash. Blinking blue light at night ...maybe scary to a night-time thief thinking an alarm may go off.

I agree that a decent alarm with a very visible blinking light is a good call for stopping opportunistic prowlers just looking for a quick grab. I live in Portland, OR and literally every night there are tweakers going around and trying door handles. I have a camera aimed on my rig and so far haven't seen any issues. My alarm also has a two way remote that goes off if the alarm is triggered, a starter kill and a backup battery hidden under the dash. Finally, I use a club (I know, can be defeated, but most of the loser car thieves around here are too lazy and are looking for an easy target) and also have a gps tracker. Another good, inexpensive option could be the combo of a cheap alarm with a bright blinking light for deterrence, combined with a separately installed hidden starter kill switch.
