My front axle is having issues. After I bought my cruiser I knew that I had to rebuild the front axle. It took 3 days but rebuilt both sides myself, (thanks to Dad who always told me that there isn't anything I can't do). I've put on about 5000 miles and this weekend began hearing a sound on the front right.

I brought it in the barn, turned on the space heater, got the wheel off, and I've got a mess. The nuts holding on the cone washers were not even hand tight and I'm leaking grease. I removed cone washers and pulled everything apart. The outer oil seal is a little disfigured, but I can't see what failed.

I'm probably in a little over my head now, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might look for specifically?

Yup to above. Right now, it sounds like nothing you can not fix. Torque everything to spec.

Replace outer seal, use blue lock tight, torque to spec and refill. You got this!!!!

May need a new little washer with the tab, and be sure to tap the it in to lock it.

My next profile pic will be female.
Everyone handles her with kid gloves...even giving encouragement.
Or better yet I'm going to have my wife open an account and let her ask the questions.

Not sure that's a fair assessment...what's wrong with encouragement and general support toward the ladies? Not too many around, I think it's kinda cool myself.
:meh:

"No I'm not talking to chicks online, I'm just on that Mud site getting info on the Truck"

Now I know how the gamers feel, when a chick logs on and they forget how their controller works.

Nothing wrong with helping the ladies...

What Hornd is saying is if he would have started this thread it would have had no replies or all replies would be "learn to search" and "FAQ".

Hijack over

Ok, I'm going to order inner seal, outer seal torq to spec and use Loctite just to be sure. Toyota in Lewiston doesn't have them in stock, but will be delivered to my house on Saturday. Thanks for all the help guys!

I was under the impression it's a guy with a pic of his wife for the avatar. Makes no difference to me if its a man or woman.

Search is your friend :flipoff2:

Just an idea, but have you thought about putting a paint mark or something to confirm when you have torqued the bolts? That would be my #1 suspect if the bolts came loose. Or get new studs/nuts/washers. Sometimes it isn't a good idea to reuse those parts depending on condition.
