Wow!....pain the in @$$.... I think on some of these trucks it might be eaiser to just remove the whole engine, trans, and TC together if you have to do any serious work.

Similar issue...on the dmax pickups the shops find it eaiser to remove the cab of the truck off the frame if they have to swap turbo's....as the turbo is just an inch or two from the firwall...

I think I may have to cut my exhaust pipe if I have to remove the transmission as it looks to be generally in the way.

sometimes these repair jobs turn out to be a royal @#$%

You're welcome on the PCM program! After you get the truck back together again and your tranny working right, we can modify some of the transmission shift points, etc. for your truck. Just some things to think about down the road. Won't cost you more than a trip down to my place in San Diego and back.

Elbert.. Yes.. I was set to drive it a few days ago....
The way I set the engine (as high as possible) has the tranny housing touching the fire wall when its pulled away... (I was not thinking about this when I set the engine) that's why I had to lift the body.
But you are right.. I think I will lift the whole body one more time to make installation easier....
Dyno suggested a 1" body lift...but I dont know.......
The exhaust had a set of joints right above/behind the TC on the 60 frame but it also was an constant exhaust leak.. so this time I opted for no flanges along the way..... I still dont want to put any I think Im just going to welded back together...


Im glad I did not take it to the tranny shop as it was a tedious job to say the least...
I dropped the tranny today and they will put a HD Sun Gear Shell and a Vette Servo and replace whatever needs replacing....with a 3 year warranty on the job...

I should be able to have it back together by Friday or Sunday at the latest..but I know how it goes when I talk to soon...

Got my tranny back today.. I'll start tomorrow to put it back on....
They put a Vette Servo and the HD sun shell gear...

The guys at the shop stated that the torque converter although seated all the way, it was not graving the pump all the time or slipping off, thus not pushing oil as it should...
Here is a pic of what I mean...
It eventually would of broken right off.


I was provided with longer bolts and was told to installed a washer between the flywheel and the torque converter to asure full contact all the time....

The 3rd and 4th gear clutch was also fried !!

It tracks nice and straight...

No wondering or vibes of any kind (well only good vibes).....

Suspension is a bit stiff.... so I might change to softer spring later on... !!!


For now Im just going to enjoy it !!!!!

This past weekend we took the rig to DV for a test run....!!
Loaded with around 1000@ of gear/tools/fuel and RTT we made our way to Death Valley

The initial plan was to explore and do some canyoneering but when we stop at Mojave to fuel up.. impulse control went out the window and we call Randy88FJ62 for some beta on how to get to the Saline Valley Hot springs..... we enter via South pass where there was some snow, up to 2 feet at the top of the pass but had some good tire tracks and decided to go out via Steel Pass and on to Bishop and Mammoth to visit with some friends....

The truck handle the gravel/wash board and sandy roads like a champ !!!!

Here is lil video of our adventure at Death Valley....this was our first time out there and I can say it wont be our last !!!

No tire rub of any kind.. the rear bump stops (extended 2") did their job.. when it bottom out....
I did have to put 30mm trim packers (spacers) on the rear coils.. to make it look level.... with all that weight..but I also know I wasn't fully loaded, so either airbags or 4" med to heavy rear coils might be in order.....
I was concerned that it might feel tipsy cause of the RTT but it didn't at all !!!!
Guess the wider stance makes a huge difference...!!

bigger tires , higher !!! (the addiction never ends....!! )

We did get a bit of a scare right before getting to the hot springs..
A God awful squeal on the front rotor after a long wash board section on the road we were doing around 44 mph....
I thought I had lost or snap the bolt that holds the from caliper but lucky us it turned out to be a rock stuck some where between the rotor and caliper.... It fell off some 3 miles later and it was all good again !!!

Update:
Well, after trying airbags for the J springs on the rear.. I conceded and forked out $$ for the Slee 4" heavy rear springs... they handle all the weight on the rear rather well and the flex (although I dont wheel) on some godforsaken dirt roads is great keeping the truck leveled... the cruiser lean (notorious on the 60's series) has also disappear

I took her to DV this past weekend..
Fully loaded with various gear n 5 folks n RTT..
Air down to 18 psi n hauled ass with some good fellas from the Trail Crew club out of LA.
Couple of 40's n heeps n an 80 series..

It handle the wash board road like a dream..
N ran very plush all the way..

Oh what a feeling !!
