My neighbour has cured me of any desire to own a duramax. 8k for a head gasket, 2 years later, 12k to do it again.

He still has it. Think I'd have sold it. Let the butthole heal. 😳

Sucks there's so few mid sized diesels here. Tons of VW and 6bt , not much in between.

Friend has a 2016 Colorado with the 4 cyl Duramax. Gets great milage and has 5 speed. Towed a 16' enclosed utility trailer
from Michigan UP to Rapid City SD , then up the mountain to his house. No issues. Loves the truck. I'd look at that truck
or the 1500 6 Cyl Turbo diesel if going new. No idea about transplanting into a LC

Friend of mine has one of those baby duramax too.

Cool little truck. He almost traded it in on a pig SUV recently because it was getting small for his kids etc. Think his is a 2020. They're still offering close to what he paid on trade in.

He was gonna be in for a shock on his fuel bill after towing his boat up to Port McNeil 🤣

I'm guessing it had a ' tune' though? :meh:

Lb7 was a pretty good motor with some out of this world fuel economy.

My step brother has baby dmax and is towing Bigfoot I n Yukon right now. He loves it.

Between that and Tundra, no contest. Tundra is junk.
Really? I think Tundra (5.7l one) will last much longer with lower maintenance costs. No doubt the diesel probably gets double the fuel economy though.... New Tundra, I have no idea.

Fuel economy and Tundra in same sentence is oxymoron. Tundra - 5 hrs to replace alternator if you know what you are doing
and cut a literal hole in the outer wheel well. Don't even want to talk about starter replacement.
The baby duramax is capable of +30 mpg and running lightly loaded, say camping gear and couple of kayaks on a rack.
Realistically I'd like to know what your BIL is getting for mileage on this trip, real world in Canada trip. There are some epic
passes and hills on that trip regardless of which route you take. Is he from Victoria or the flat?
Besides, midsize baby duramax can be found with manual transmission. That's a big plus.
