Captn Conch
Life Begins Above Timberline.
Well...I bought a new to me 1976 FJ55, My second one. Do not own the first one now.
Quite original, normal crusty body but not in the critical places. Rare white over green..same as the first one I owned. (Ha! were they all made this color in '76?) This one is a survivor with crusty body panels but good floor boards, cargo area, doors, frame and a good running original engine with new clutch, water pump and has not been converted to rock climber but real original.
I feel lucky to have found this as I have dearly missed the '55 I bought and sold some 17 years ago in Hesperus Colorado.
So today I changed all it's essential fluids except the rear pumpkin that I can't get the filler plug off....Will defer to a professional to uncork that. Old gear lube wasn't real bad but due to be changed for sure. New rear tailgate window gear from SOR, working great now, Will post pix as I can.
Game Plan: I'm going to stop all rust intrusion, make sure all the mechanicals are serviced and brought up to snuff. Will be garaged and not exposed to moist conditions any more. Restore as I go. But will head up into the Rockies and drive it as I restore it... Yeah Baby!
Preserve as per FJ55 Pig Preservation Society dictates...Life is good!
