OK- I found a possible donor for the parts I need. ( Remember recent post I needed better OEM 1965 or 1966 doors, SWB truck bed,and tailgate.

found a seller with 1966 FJ45 LWB with solid bed, solid tailgate, solid tub, solid windshield frame, solid original doors. most OEM Drivetrain in tact.

-missing engine
-missing headache rack
-missing rear upper cab of the hard top. It has the upper part of the top but the lower top was dented/damaged with broken window somehow and thrown away.

NO title. Bill of sale only. Entire truck has original paint from 1966 and has surface rust but no rust through and nothing that would require welding donor panels into the LWB. My assessment is a thorough sandblast, prime and paint.

Seller wants $2000 cash.

My thoughts are if we can come to an agreement on the money I can take my rust free 1965 FJ45 SWB cab and put it on this frame with bed and tailgate. My truck and this truck are originally the same color by the way. Then I would have one complete truck (minus headache rack).

I know that the New but repro beds and tailgate are available for around $2000 plus shipping.

Just wanted some ideas on this price of $2000 and if there are flaws in my idea of putting a SWB cab onto a LWB frame with bed and tailgate.

My goals are to go 100% original on the LWB.

thanks

Go for it. I am looking for a FJ45 tub and would be interested in talking. If it were not to work out , I know others could use your balance of parts.

Hey ground up.. Do you think the price is fair or? Without pics I knows but I tried to describe it pretty well.

I think it is if the thing is straight. If it has alot of dents, any rust thru, damaged tailgate, then maybe not. The killer to alot of people would be not title. It still can be had with some work. The key would be to make sure you get a bill of sale. Then you could possibly apply for a missing/lost title.

I think the bottom line is condition. If it is like you say surface rust, everyhing there except hedache rack, engine, portion of the cab it might not be bad. IMOP a LWB will be worth more than a SWB, but that is just my preference. If you get pics, shoot them to me and we can talk more.

I think it's priced a bit too high for a pile of parts. Granted, this type of "pile of parts" is hard to come by.

If he is the last titled owner, getting a title using the Bill-o-Sale is not too hard...at least here in IDeeho. You need to think about this if you want to use the LWB frame, 'cause that frame VIN should end up matching the cab VIN. You can always cut the frame horn off your SWB and weld it to the LWB. I'd try and get the LWB titled and title it as what it is...less confusion down the road.

You'll have no problem unloading a 45 cab. Tally up what you think the parts are worth on the "market" (This market, not Ebay) and see if you'll break even, I think you will. Good luck.

Remember, your wife's garage space is at risk again...

45's

Dan- Hilarious message. Wife's spot for her 80 is soon to be streetside.

FYI- The seller is not the last registered owner. Last registered owner has passed on.

About the VIN, the base cab is still good and it matches the frame. Although the engine would be correct era, Numbers would not match. I would only steal the top from the SWB 45 I bought last week.

I do agree that after one rig was combined from two, the residual parts would come to a decent amount to help me break even. Although the 45 tub left over would be without a top and possible only suitable for a rockcrawler buggy type person.

I'll have pics by the weekend.

thanks

I just dealt with the "dead PO" tilte thing with my lv. It's do-able, here in Idaho. I had no Bill-o-sale or title. You can do a records search at the DMV to find the last titled owners name and address, then send them a registered letter. When it comes back, un-opened, the DMV comes out and inpects the VIN, you give them $11.00 and they give you a "Conditional Title" the title is conditional for three years, after which you will get a real title. If'n in that 3 years, someone comes back from the dead that can contest ownership, you have to deal with that.

Good Luck.

Pics of the FJ45 LWB

here are some more pics. This thing is pretty rough IMO.

Worth $2000?

Aaron, if he doesn't sell there are a few things that might work on my '67 FJ45LV, specifically the turn signal switch if it isn't ruined from the weather.

You should not have any problem finding one of those....

I would not spend 2K on this rat....possibly 1.......maybe...

Good luck!

value

that was thought. $800 would be about it. in fact I had a hard time not laughing when I saw this. If this is straight and clean then I am Tom Cruise.

This is the same guy that painted a mint 65 SWB 45 - PURPLE. He told me he wondered why it only went to $9k on EBAY even though it was/is mint. Perfect original hubcaps. I mean this truck is mint and he wonders why it didn't go above $9k. Some guy in FL bought it and I think will be repainting it. At least I hope.

So far I haven't had much success. I hope to visit the wreckers in Honduras next weekend. I'll have a better idea then if finding what I need is much of a problem.

I remember that one, had a flat bed on it.

and no thats not worth 2K, 1K maybe. that bed is FULL of rot and bondo.

not worth 2K, maybe 500-700 but I tend to be cheap.

Aaron, if you decide to do this, I would like to put my buddy Jeff first in line for the swb bed. I don't know if you saw the thread, but he spanked the bed on his swb into the neighbor's house last Saturday, and we are still going over his very limited options.

:)

Here is another way to look at it: if it was not a landcruiser pickup it would be worth $50 and someone would buy it, hack the frame and use it as a utility trailer.
Make him a low offer and then walk away. If you were a scheming type of person you'd send a buddy over with an offer a little higher a week later and see what happens... but that would be a sneaky underhanded sort of thing to do. Kind of like getting an old piece of junk out of someone's field and then trying to get $2k from some sucker.

Fj45 Lwb

Update. I told him $800 for the truck for all the reasons discussed here.

He said no, $2000 because someone on EBAY will pay that.

I have a few other contacts around for FJ45 parts that may be fruitful. As another poster put it, I am not in a hurry for parts. I'll wait for the right bed not some bondo patched rust busket.

65SWB45- "Aaron, if you decide to do this, I would like to put my buddy Jeff first in line for the swb bed. I don't know if you saw the thread, but he spanked the bed on his swb into the neighbor's house last Saturday, and we are still going over his very limited options."

I can help out any way possible. If your buddy wants the lead on this thing I can set him up? I don't have a bed on my newest find, the $300 65 SWB 45, it has a flatbed.

If I don't find a clean bed I may just buy the aluminum one with tailgate.

thanks

PM me if you want this guy's information for the LWB 45.
