I’m getting an ls swap from Proffitts in q1 of 2023 and I’m excited

I was considering a 1hdt or 1hdt fe with another shop but there was so much uncertainty with the build and overseas parts and costs, which makes sense - who knows what gets sourced. Plus, I don’t know about servicing it and parts availability. I want to keep this one for along time so decided on the ls and Proffitts have the build dialed in

I had the same thoughts. Parts availability was definitely a concern so I ditched the idea. What was their timeline for the build?

Thanks for your feedback.

I really feel due to the scarcity of a cruiser like this, keep it stock and sell it to someone who will enjoy it as is. Then buy one what is made already to the wants you have in mind. Of course, my 2 cents

This was my same thought when I started to consider an engine swap in the poverty. It’s never been modified prior to my ownership and wanted to keep it that way. But as I drove it daily I stared to see things I’d like to improve to make it more practical. I’m still on the fence about the swap and more than anything wanted to hear others perspective who have either done a swap or considered it and kept their current setup.

I appreciate your honest opinion.

Started talks in late July, signed and deposit in Aug. I expect to send the vehicle to them in Jan or so, but I will confirm this week now that SEMA is done

I am still planning to swap a 2uz into my poverty pack, I already have the 2uz drivetrain. I won’t start on it until my 45 project is done. My 80 is a little rough, so it would need an overhaul by anyone who might value it as a collector.

I assume there is a collector out there for everything but if they aren’t knocking on your door with a fat check, I would encourage you to make it what you want.

I agree, been following your engine swap & it’s been a good read. Just off the top of my head you built the engine/trans mounts correct? You also may know this answer. Do all UZ engines require premium fuel?

I haven’t done much to my cruiser recently other than driving it daily. After hunting for a dash for while I was lucky enough to find one local to me. An awesome member here reached out & I couldn’t be more happy.

Finally I can pull the dash out and clean behind the dash without having to do the job twice. Because the vehicle was heavily trailed by the previous owner looking for dino bones. The build up of dust had been restricting a/c air flow. Every time I turned on the air decent dust cloud would come out.

Everyone on here has been extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I’m deeply appreciative of this community.

Thanks for the kind words. I modified 80 series 1fz frame mounts and used 1fz motor mount bushing for the engine. The transmission crossmember was a combination of modified oem crossmember and skid plate that I had.

I am not sure about all 2uz models but my understanding is the non-VVTI runs regular and the VVTI versions run premium.

While putting my son in his car seat today I realized this isn’t something that’s mentioned in the breakdown of poverty pack features.

My poverty didn’t come with middle seat steps as it didn’t come with a third row seat. It didn’t even have the welded hardware on the floors that the plastic clips screw into. My original carpet was filthy and I replaced it with a good condition carpet which you can see is precut for the step hardware. I pulled my original carpet out and yup the holes aren’t precut.

Minor detail but cool find.

I have a pair of grey steps if you are interested. Is that generic carpet from Home Depot?

Homedpot carpet wouldn’t have precut holes in it😂

Question,

What are people’s recommendations for shops who would freshen up a TRD supercharger? What’s the current market rate for a job like this? turn around time?

Thanks in advance.

Next in order is paint. Part of me wants to paint it the original silver without the lower color. But cleaning off a section in the door jam you can see how cool it looks with the lower color. Either way it’ll look good. Picking up paint next week. Now to find OE window rubber so I can do a window out paint job.

I’m also looking for a grey crack free dash if anyone has one for sale or knows of one for sale. Pm me if you do.

Any updates to this awesome poverty spec find? Did you ever paint it? Would love to see it resprayed in the factory color combo. My FZJ80 is the same colors.

Hi 405,

I haven’t done much other than collect parts. Also a roof rack, visors and a new windshield. Its currently my daily but I have another cruiser that will take over that duty while I do an engine swap and paint work on this.

I’ve been debating between UZ or LS or 1HDT. Because the vehicle is so complete & original I feel bad putting something that’s not Toyota. However those other options can get expensive. I currently get 8mpg and tired of the lack of power. So an engine swap will definitely happen. I’m open to hear peoples opinions on those three engine swaps.

I’ve also been thinking of going with a tall thin tire Toyo M55 as it would fit perfect under the flareless body. These AT3 have very little poke & have been amazing for the type of use I have put this cruiser through.

In my area I’ve only seen one other cruiser in the same color as mine. I’ll have to go on your posts to see what yours looks like. I’m going to make a walk around video of the vehicle before I start work on it to document before and after.

I recently went camping with my family and up the hwy 1 coast. Also tested a OEM Jdm rear wing which Didn’t look too bad. I might install a second one I have.

Good to see you're still enjoying it. I like that such a rare to find truck is all Toyota DNA, so I would vote for the 1hdt or maybe a 1FZ?
Looking forward to some more updates. In the meantime here is my FZJ80 in the same color code. It's my favorite 2 tone offered for the 80 series. I think yours is the only flareless 80 I've seen in this color combination.

Love this thread! Can't wait for paintjob. I hope you stick with the original colors.

LS is the most practical and best performance, but I think this rig deserves a 1HDT to fit the theme. UZ not enough of an upgrade over a 1fz, IMO.
