Hi all,

I've stumbled across a lot of ih8mud threads while researching and looking for solutions to my own FJ80 conversion project.
Thought I would post some pictures of the project at hand.

PCM mounting location and bracket - this is not the PCM i used in the conversion, this was just for test fitting as it already had a broken connector so any more damage to it wouldn't be an issue.

Ford products are not very common/popular for swapping into Land Criusers. I have never seen that I6 turbo here in USA. sounds interesting with some of the hi performance versions.

No pics = it didn't happen :-)

Fitted a set of extractors for a little extra oomph, they're tuned for low down torque.

They don't quite clear the front drive shaft and the o2 sensor hole is in the complete wrong location.
Had to get them modified for everything to fit with good clearance.

I didn't take any photos today but i did finish wiring and fitting the VSS passthrough which has solved an issue where the PCM thought it was in an engine runaway condition and it would cut fuel and spark causing a stall during deceleration using the engine.

Unfortunately there is a serious stuttering fault that has developed the past couple of months, still trying to hunt down the cause.

Upload them directly to this site. I'd love to see them.

Have done, thanks for the interest :D

I don't know if there is an equivalent by Ford in other markets but they make an SUV AWD here called the Territory, it uses the same engine i've put in the Land Cruiser (which is also in the Falcon Sedans). My thoughts were they perform well in the Territorys so it should be pretty good in a Land Cruiser.

Cheeky haha

Looks like the Barra engine is an Aussie creation

That's the one

That was a nightmare when PhotoBucket did that and it's not like their site was super slick or smooth when the hosting was free either.

Whoa! Those mirrors. Look like towing mirrors from a GM 2500.

That style seems to be particularly popular among the Aussie guys. Seen them on 4wd Action a lot for example. Must be an Aussie aftermarket product. Would be interested to know what they are exactly.

Had to google it. That barra engine looks like a little powerhouse! Too bad it's not a turbo model.

Interested to know how this compares to the Yota engine.

You've got a 4.5 Toyota I6 tuned for low end torque to pull a 2.8tonne SUV,
vs a 4.0 Ford I6, tuned for quite a bit higher RPM, and pulling a 1.8tonne sedan

Interesting. Wonder if they bolt right up.

Those specific ones are Clearviews Clearview Accessories - Home of Clearview Accessories Towing Mirrors & Easy Slides which are bolt on for all types of Land Cruisers.
They also have a US site Clearview Mirrors USA: Top Quality Towing Mirrors And Accessories

Too bad indeed :frown: unfortunately I couldn't find a reasonably priced i6 trubo donor that wasn't suspect condition so it's NA for now.
Turbo in the future if NA proves to be lacking but from the driving I've done so for it's got heaps more grunt than the 3F i pulled out.

Just looking at the numbers it's quite comparable and while my donor vehicle was a sedan I am using mostly Territory numbers for this comparison. quick info dump :flush:

Interesting thing is that with the FJ80 early 5 speed you're sitting just under peak torque of the Barra while in 5th.
You also have the benefit of 500cc less engine capacity over the 1FZ which would hopefully translate into better fuel economy and the Barra is significantly lighter than the 3F (i don't know about the 1FZ-FE).
Have to get the front of the Cruiser dropped down since the Barra went in lol the thing sits up like it's howling at the moon.

barras can make incredible power, with a turbo
