"The brushguard is repairable"

By repairable, does the seller mean it will fit in a nearby dumpster never to cause trouble ever again?

He is smoking the crack he is most obviously selling.

I've seen this bling-mobile around town. It looks even worse in person (and I'm talking about before the damage). :frown:

Wow, You guys Are Rough!

As for the damage multiplier factor, yes the Manik bar did more damage than it saved. Otherwise it would have most likely been just the upright supports and the center section of the bumper. The guard acted like a lever pushing down and back.
 Technically speaking I would be a real world testimony of why NOT to install that type of brushguard. You are much better spending the extra money for the ARB or something similar that replaces the entire front bumper assembly.
As of the choice on wheels and tires plus the paint. You can do the best you can do. Sure, there are many other things I WANTED... like the new 6" lift just released, a nice set of beadlocks, ARB front and rear bumpers- But it doesn't always work out the way I want it. Especially when you figure how much those things cost. The wheels and tires are a decision on necessity plus the value. I traded some of my audio gear to a tire shop for them, they handle alot better than the stock ones did. I cant think of any offroad shop that would trade me a nice set of Intercos on some weld wheels for some audio amplifiers even up. So before you make rude comments about drugs or other references like that without knowing that persons situation- think twice. If I was a drug dealer my Rig would've been lifted years ago - because I would have the money. I could say so much about how insulted I feel right now that the very group of people I wanted to be like just put me down. But I wont say anything about that, because my parents taught me better. So Cheers to all your Bashing comments...
 hope you feel better in doing it. Have a nice day.

My reference was mainly to your rims and price. The truck is not worth 10k It has at least 3k in damage and needs rims and tires which will cost at minimum 1k. Factoring in that if otherwise perfect the vehicle is worth 8k that leaves 4k. Sorry if I offended and welcome to mud.

Why didn't you sell your gear and get wheels and tires that go with an OFFROAD VEHICLE as opposed to bling bling rims that look like they belong in Compton?

SoCal, take it easy man.

If you kit your rig up like a G-ride, you're bound to get the dealer comments.

As far as wanting to be like this group, everyone here is different. You have the entire spectrum of vehicles from hard-core off road, stock rides, and guys like LX-treme, so be your own man and do it up like you want. It looks like maybe you're selling this one to get another to outfit 'correctly', so that's a good start.

I see you were so mad that you took the time afterwards to post a reply on another thread though ;)

And put that damn thing back up on Craigslist so I can see it.

I guess he deleted the ad

I got this "This posting has been deleted by its author."

Quite the loss.

SoCal you had a good source of information with those pictures. They gave an excellent example to show the comparison between a 20mph crash with the Damage Multiplier and other post showing crashes with the ARB. I think we should get them back on here. Welcome to the forum.

Rethinking Value

Tim,

Is there a section for landcruiser accidents where pics can be posted? It probably is a good reference. I see so many cruisers riding around with the same exact front grill guard. Those people might want to know the potential damage multiplier hazard they are riding around with. I remember seeing pics of a Cruiser with an ARB bullguard on it that had been involved in an accident. It collided with a 1980's Lincoln Town car ~ the Towncar was completely totaled and unrepairable, whilst the Cruiser only had scratches on the bullguard's paint. If someone is wanting to protect the front of their rig, that is a much better way to go.
I did delete the ad for selling my cruiser. I`m not sure if I can replace it cost effectively(not to mention causing outrage in the cruiser community). I priced out the sheet metal, coolant system parts, and paint. I should be able to rebuild mine for $2500. I did some research on getting a different one, and what people are selling used 93-97 landcruisers for. In the Truck Trader I was seeing 93' cruisers with 50K more miles than mine, no factory axle lockers, and cloth upholestery for $9000. The only way they got any cheaper was to go back to a 91-92' and I really do not want that engine with no lockers. The other issue is I do not know their service history as well. There is a huge value in already having the front axle service done, catalytic convertor, and all standard tuneup parts taken care of.
If anyone knows of a low mileage 80 series with lockers that already has a big lift and other offroad mods done to it for $9000 or under I am interested in it. Just let me know what you find. It could save me a lot of work.

Just for Reference

As far as I know, I still hold the record for the farthest a stock vehicle ever made it up the Widow Maker in Arizona (rock buggy trail)... thats no easy feat considering the degree/pitch ratio of the grade, plus the depth of the ruts. many vehicles get stuck between the cliff faces in the ruts at the top... that is if they dont roll over trying to get there first. And, I did it with the "Compton" wheels/tires. That pass is why the truck needed a new paint job in the first place. You guys should be proud of this cruiser... lifted chevys and jeeps couldn't follow it. Also it went on a trail run with a AZ jeep club (only cruiser in attendance amongst 13 Jeeps). No problem in 2 feet+ snow... Plus I tow chained out a Liberty that got stuck. Again I was with many trail rigs with big offroad tires, even the liberty. I engaged both axle lockers and yanked that lifted truck out of the same spot I just passed without getting stuck. I could feel all the animosity from the jeep guys.
I feel the need to defend my rig, because it never let me down~ its a good truck. The one advantage I do have with those tires that over if I lifted it are in highway cornering. I know its not right to drive extremely fast on public roads, but at high speeds - most little suped up hondas and mitsubishi's cant hang with this truck. Put 6000lbs on 305mm width tires and you handle like glue. I will lose most all people on Interchange transition ramps ~ simply because I do not have to slow down like them. When the factory 16" were on the truck I always felt like the rear end was going to slide out in turns. With the bigger wheel combo the truck just sticks to the road. These aren't real low pros like 22's or 24's anyway. They still have a good amount of sidewall. btw: 305/50/20 is equivalent to a 33" in outer diameter. Alot of trucks these days come with 20" from the factory. I feel the only reason why this truck didn't come with them is because at the time of production the biggest passenger vehicle size available was 17" and even that was esoteric then. Even the FJ cruiser concept came with 20" offroad tires. The production model came watered down missing the billet aluminum trim and 20" wheel combo due to cost reduction. Believe me, if they released those tires, I would have been first in line to bolt a set of FJ cruiser take-offs on my 80 series.:bounce2:

Hey TIm... is that a chop top cruiser as your avatar? And is it real or a photoshop chop top (say that 10 times fast) ? If it is real.. got any larger detailed pics of it?

FYI it is wrong to drive an 80 or a Porsche at speeds over the limit on public roads, have I done it? sure and I was wrong. To compare an 80 to a car is silly.

I am glad you are happy with your truck, it is yours and you have every right to do to it as you please, however don't expect (or demand) that others will also like it let alone pay a premium for it.

I got my 94 for way less than you are asking needing only paint which I did and it is now very close to cosmetically perfect.

I took care of it's few hoses and gaskets that needed attention and am at 7k all in, I don't have lockers or leather but I hate leather and don't need lockers.

I hope you get what you want from your truck and I am sorry you had an accident.
