Your 3-speed and early 4-speed transfers will not bolt up to a late fj40/FJ60 tranny. You will need to get a split case from the FJ60 or late FJ40. Also, unless you are making a crossmember, you will need the 4-speed bellhousing from the FJ40 that has the dog-ears.

There is a 87 60 at the U-Pull that has a 4 speed and transfer case on the last time I was there.

Prices
Transmission $110
Bell Housing $28.25
Transfer Case $85.25

does it still have the suspension? They don't have 'Lift' or 'Suspension' on the website: &copy U-Pull-&-Pay - Albuquerque price list

sez they also have an 89, FWIW.

looks like my 1st rig is moving back in, secondary to marriage trouble. :frown:

might be time to (keep) bust(n) my own knuckles.

[6 hrs tanker shuttle - 1" L pinky flapper.
unknown - .75'" slice on R ring finger.
sammich making - .25" bloody L thumb tip

All done now, that's 3.]

They have the springs on it, but no shackles. Might be able to use old ones? Or just order new shackles. I still don't know who made the lift. I would also get new bushings.

Leaf Spring $15 + $3.25 core charge = $18.25x4 so $73 plus tax. The 89 FJ62 has factory leaf springs on it, if you want factory ride, but they may sag some because of age, but not as bad what you are describing on yours now. Sorry for not being able to pull them for you. Next week after Tuesday I would be happy too, or if you want to go out and get them I don't mind giving you a hand. Also when you go out you find way cool stuff.

the 88 fj62 in santa fe is still relatively untouched--still has all stock suspension, axles, etc. Oh yeah, the guy who dumped it has a CCOT HFS suspension he pulled from it before trading. He had it posted on CL, dunno if he sold it. I can check if you are interested.

pyro-boy has an '83 fj60 tranny/tcase he may be interested in selling.

I might drop by today

Duh, I forgot I have a 85 FJ60 tranny sitting at my house. I was thinking of keeping the tcase, but I may go another route because I want a doubler. I could be convinced to sell the 2 together.;)

I mentioned that a couple days ago but I also couldn't remember exactly what your plan was in terms of drivetrain.

I dropped by you pull-n-pay this morning, the goods are still on the 60, I may go this weekend to claim them.

Bionic, if you are serious about selling both the xfer-case and tranny let me know soon, I will offer +$75 on the Pull-n-Pay prices, to save the aggravation of pulling.

no problem Marc.

also, I have the bell housing, but need to pull the engine to get it off. that should be easy considering there's no body on it.:D

The FJ60 bellhousing will work, but you will need to fabricate a cross member. The early FJ40 4-speed bellhousings have dog-ear engine mounts that attach to the frame. The FJ60's do not.

sounds good, that is exactly what I need, let me know

Did you use a 4speed BH for the H55 ?

Speaking of trannys and t-cases. I told a friend that I would ask. He has a '78 FJ40 and thinks the tcase is bad. I haven't gotten to that chapter yet, but I know he has been pretty good at putting truck together. Does anyone know of one for sale? or some way to fix it?

Try:

Coolermans rebuild howto. Your friend most likely has a 4spd tcase. Coolermans howto is for a 3spd but may help.
CruiserOutfitters has rebuild kits
From the FJ40 Tech FAQ

If it is a split case it's really easy to rebuild. Hard part is trying to reassemble it bolted to the tranny.

I now have a, 1F engine, and 3 speed tranny, with t-case for sale, any reasonable offer
