Getting ready to install the fomoto drain kit (valve/hose/etc).

early contact w. manufacturer indicates around 15 ft-lb install torque. However, the drain nipple flats as a torque location is advised against (seperate piece threaded into drain body). there is no other location for socket to grab.

Distributor says do it by feel. Kinda scary due to the criticalness of the pluge and possiblility of vibraton induced back out.

any guidance on this issue?

German specs will suffice. Don't think I've ever "properly torqued" a drain plug in 25 years of doing oil changes and have never run into issues.

Tighten, check for leaks, call it a day. Mine has been installed over a decade now and I never torqued it.

German is fine. I have them on all of my cars and the only leak I've ever had from them was when I forgot to snug one up beyond finger tight. Unnecessary precaution but I try to snug them to where the lever sits on top, minimizing risk of anything accidentally touching it from below.

Finally just put mine in.

Started with "that ought to do it" by hand ~which resulted in a very slow seep/drip.

Put a wrench on it and increased the torque to "that's plenty" and everything is good. Keeping an eye on the fibrous gasket should prevent any serious over tightening.

A nominal 1/2" vinyl cap fits on the nipple to keep some crud out.

It’s not a space shuttle. Try your best and don’t brake it. Leave the plate off and check it after driving it around for a few days. Tighten it a little more if it leaks or leave if it’s dry.

I can tell you that you are going to love it when use it. Draining the oil is super clean.

w/r to monitoring for leaks, i plan to run a paint line from vavle to oil pan. this will allow me to see if any back off occurs.

Used to great affect on dissent no-cut rear bumper w. the gazillion fastners.
