Does anyone have either a template or good pictures of where the stock holes are supposed to be in the transmission cover for a 3 speed with manual transfer case? Mine had a vacuum actuated transfer case originally and someone just cut one big hole in the cover. I would like to weld up the big hole and then cut the correct ones and add the proper boots for the two levers.

Hello. I see this is an older post. Did anyone ever respond? Or, did you document (photos / videos) what and where you had to make your holes? I just bought a 1971 Toyota FJ40 and it has a 3 on the tree, and I'm going to convert it to a 4 on the floor with a mechanical Overdrive unit, so I'm going to have to figure out where to cut the floor too.

Thank you for any advice or help you can give.

When I installed a four in my 68 I used a 74-78 transmission tunnel. Same as the one on left in this picture.

The one in center is a pre 9/72 with a floor shifters. Here is the 9/72-9/73 three speed. 9/73-1/79 three speed has different boots. It was only used in the US 9/73-1/74 when the four speed started here.

Obviously not familiar with the Todd OD. On my 68 the hand brake drum is almost touching the torque tube. I had planned on replacing the torque with the 7/72+ style which solves the brake drum clearance issue.

One thing started to check out was the actual location of the torque tube on the frame. It may have been moved back a little. This could be an issue with OD. I know the Fairey OD does not have clearance with a four speed on a pre 9/72 frame.

Here are some pics of the transmission + transfer case + Todd Overdrive Unit.

"IF" anyone has any wisdom to give on if I will still be able to run my PTO unit for the PTO winch, please let me know.

Thank you.
