Very slick.

Do you have a weight and other dimensions? What about close up pics of the mounting locations?

What mounts did you use? What did they charge you?

Weight - I'd guess to be around 60-70lbs?

dimensions - I can get exact ones if you want but 20" for the moon roof and 10" btw the other support bars. I think 4" for the front support bar and 6or8" for the rear support bar from main hoop.

I used the Groucho mounts from Gamiviti.

I can get pics of mounts tomorrow. If anyone wants one near Houston, lmk. My buddy can make more but I don't think he wants to deal with shipping/freight etc... Especially if no changes are required.

Does he do aluminum? (I have the mounts...)

James - he absolutely does aluminum, primarily actually. Lots of boat posts/stands and hunting racks. You looking for a similar design?

YES!!!

dude thats a sweet lookin rack!! what was the cost?

Cost was $400 for my steel rack + mounts separately of course.

Here are some pictures of the mount:

And just to demonstrate the strength, here is 3 dudes sitting on the rack while we wait for my buddy to come pull us out of the sand while we were sitting on frame...

That rack looks reallllll good but how do you intend to prevent things from sliding off the side??

Rack mainly for RTT to be eventually placed upon. for other things, there are straps. Racks with rails or not, things shouldn't be sliding up there regardless imho...

I believe the mounts you used had to degrees for the angle of the mount (with a factory rack and without). Which ones did you use? You removed the factory cross bars but left the center strips?

I ask because I am trying to build a setup that is as close to the roof as possible (without building it from scratch) My truck is my DD so I need to fit in underground parking when in the city (most are 6' 8" - 7").

Thanks! The rack looks great!

Those are 45degree mounts. Correct about the center strips being left in place. Currently, with the heavy/med combo and 285s, I fit under the 7' garage at work. it still makes me duck my head though. a 6'8'' garage might be pushing it...

Even though it looks like it sits high from the sides, the middle of the roof to the bottom of the rack is roughly only 1.5".

here is his website so you guys can check out some of his work.

feel free to contact him directly or ask any questions here that I might be able to answer.

Awesome... great info! Cheers!

Really cool, nice job!

Total coincidence, but I had another member here contact us about making him a custom Gamiviti flat rack with a sunroof opening, in fact he turned me onto this thread after we'd already started the design. I just picked it up today and took some pictures, here you go:

It's the exact same rack as our flat rack, but with the 2nd cross bar cut out, then two new cross bars put in at 90° to box in the forward mounting plate, and frame in the sunroof opening.

The roofs of the 80 and 100 series are very similar. I don't have an 80 anymore, but strapped the sunroof rack onto my half rack in the location it would be in if installed (but higher, obviously) to see how it's going to look. I actually dig it, like it more than I thought I would.

And hey couple comments on the above comments as long as I'm here: the 30/60 towers are about 1" lower than the 45° towers, and each have about 3/4" of up and down travel to them. The 30/60 towers will only work if you don't have a factory rack, but the 45° towers would allow you to mount something above the factory rack. We originally made the 30/60's to get a wider stance, so our same racks that fit the 80's and 100's could also fit the 60/62 series, but then later realized they could also be used on 80's for a lower profile rack.

The upside of the 30/60's on the 80 is you get more clearance for garages, a little less drag, etc. The downside is it can be a pain to put your arm under there if you have to reach all the way to the middle for a u-bold for a box or something. You can usually get past this by mounting the inside mounts first with the box or tent towards the outside, then sliding whatever it is over. there are 80's running 4" Slee lifts and 315's, running 30/60 towers and Expo racks (basket upwards) and driving inside standard 7' garages. it's tight, and every garage, and every ride height is different, but it's definitely possible.

Also to comment on the "stuff sliding off" thought, you strap it down, same as you would if you had a basket. We'll lob camping chairs, sleeping bags, and a 10x10 awning up there, then use one of those spider web bungee things secured to the perimeter. For heavier or larger items we use ratchet straps. Even when I had a big basket rack I'd never just throw something up there without also using some straps, so I've found it's actually no different without walls. Just makes it easier for loading, unloading, and RTT's.

I also had all the racks on the garage floor today, so snapped a couple pictures of them side by side. Comparison of the Expo rack, the new "sunroof rack," the flat rack, and the half rack. There's actually a new 3/4 rack coming in about a week, so stay tuned for that one but until then here's the full lineup:

PM or email me off the site with questions, unless it's somewhat tech related then post up! :grinpimp:

I picked up my Aluminum racks, same design as Richards and have it mounted with the "lower" Gamviti mounts. I removed the OEM rack and the rub strips and OMFG it's loud and vibrates, will definitely need a wind deflector...
