Tough to tell how far it would sit below the tub from the pics. In another life I had a dune beige 76 that had a home made 24 Gal rear tank that I loved, wish I still had it. Had it plumbed with an electric fuel pump to the main tank so I could refill my main tank a couple of times per outing. Back then I was all over southern NM and AZ so the extra range was a godsend.

If this is going to be a weekend wheeler then I say no, if it's more of a mixed use or will go some distance to get out (Big Bend or further) then I'm thinking of keeping it even it you're needing to plate it to protect it.

Kelly,

With cab on, it sticks out 2-3" lower than the bumper. My 40 will probably more of a daily/weekend driver with occasional wheeling (roundup or so). I may build arear bumper similar to what Pat has and carry a jerry can.

You don't want it they suck ... I'll take it off your hands :p

Joel,

Let's talk. I will be needing some 33X10.5's. Maybe we can work something out...

Luis,

Nice work and quite an ambitious project. Can't wait to see it completed.

Thanks Charles. Originally I just wanted to get it running, but decided to do the springs and shocks and one thing led to another...

Here is today's progress... doing timing chain on my son's truck at the same time...

It's on! I finished my final test today, so I wont be shut in studying. Oh did I mention that My "body man is MIA? I havent heard from him or had a returned phone call in a month. All of his tools are still at the truck.

At this point, I am cutting my losses. Well they really arent losses, I traded him a a rotting truck for the work and help. I still have posession of the title and just need the other door repairs. I can do eveything else myself. It's quite aggrevating because the metal is exposed with new surface rust since he never primered after DAing the truck. Now I will have to handle this, as an additional setback. Bygones! I'm hitting the ground running on the truck, because I need this thing done by november. At this point, I am planning on going straight to top on since the weather will probably be cooling off by the time it is on the road.

Thanks for allowing me to vent.

Glad to hear you finished with your test; hope it went well.

Good luck with your body work. I guess I need to start working on mine to keep up...

Davis,

yes, it looks good. Wish I could keep up with you but my 60 is dead at the moment...

Wow that looks great

Very nice!

Did you roll or spray it? I want to do the same but with the nicer of the beige colors, T416:D...

I started out spraying, The heat and humidity were so strong, it set up too quickly and my Shutz gun clogged and I could not spray the second coat. I scrambled to get the rollers and everything ready and finished off with tthat setup.

Doing the underside first was a very good lesson for what can and will go wrong when I do the inside. Cut everything first! That little foam block they sell is a godsend. I will Cut everything first and have 2 guns on hand next time for the interior. The Shutz gun is only 12 bucks a gun in case you have anything go wrong like I did.

As far as flexibility, I t is closer to the harder side, but it is pliable. I have seen several cars with trail body damage, that did not chip at all.

Davis,

how much liner did you get to do the underside & inside? How did you prep underside? Where did you get the $12 shutz gun? What is the foam block for?

Thanks,
Luis

I bought two gallons to do the bottom and inside. I got the shuts gun from a well stocked San Marcos paint and welded supply shop called hoffmans. They even carry raptor liner. Which I would have bought in hind site because I wound up trying to spray it. The foam block I bought as an add on for a few dollars from monstaliner. They also carry the shutz guns. It took all of a gallon to do the underside of the tub. I had plenty of challenges since their instructions do not call for as much MEK as their online video does and I do not think mine was thinned enough (hence my issues with the gun clogging. It was so hot and humid and my gallon set up way to fast. I would say I only had a 4 hour pot life as it was quickly turning useless. I will be well prepared next time for the curing characteristics when I do the inside of the tub. I purchased the tint at a local paint store off east 183.

Don't forget to buy 50 ear plugs. It's a must for bolt holes.

Uh oh. All body work is done. I worked from 7-7 with no break working on the body to get the flash rust off the bare metal spots and to finish all patches. I am now primering all of the parts starting with the Tub last night.

Ppg mp170 epoxy primer. 2-3 coats of Ppg mp 282 high build.
