Hi All,

I removed the water pump last weekend - what a struggle that was!

I'm going to reinstall the new AISIN one I bought from @Racer65 this weekend, but it got me thinking. When I removed the waterpump I ended up following a thread here that said to pull the studs.

Per cityracer's instructions, I will apply FIPG to both sides of the gasket for the water pump. I feel it will get really messy if I try to hold the water pump and gasket covered in FIPG while I try to put studs through the holes. Then on top of that, I've got to tighten everything down before the gasket sets.

Has anyone run into this issue?

Is there a more straightforward way?

Thanks!

When we did this we did not put FIPG on the gaskets, we just cleaned all the surfaces well and went for it. No leaks so far and it's been a couple of years. We used the Aisin from Rock auto. Instead of re-installing the studs I just got Grade 8 bolts and cut them to the proper length. Remember that some of them also go through brackets for the idler pulley and other stuff so cut accordingly (might have made that mistake first time).
