These are the same series I'll be getting for my 62 when I reach the point of doing a new system. The 6.5" are shallow enough that with a small bezel they can still work in the doors (I'll be adding speakers to the rear passenger doors too), and I'll be using 6x9" units in the cargo area. I'm building new cargo trim panels so I can easily figure out exactly where I want to locate the speakers (and other accessories I'll be integrating).
Id love info on these panels youre building.
I saw a post on here of a guy who used one to build a sub enclosure and I thought it was neat, and on one of my panels there's a tear in the vinyl. Though about some thin plywood, stained.

These are just basic wooden panels that I'm cutting to match the outline of the OEM cargo panels, with cutouts for a 12V receptacle (for an electric cooler mainly), 6x9 speakers, and once I can source something I like, flush mounted flip-up hooks for stuff like grocery and hardware store bags. They'll have just holes where the original plastic snaps went, and be secured by being screwed into rivnuts that I'm installing to replace the clip "surrounds". Once they're done I'll have them upholstered for an OEM look.

How do yall get the butyl off? Whats the easiest way to do so?
Get it cold if you can, I could get it rolling on itself but it was absolute torture, a door took a few hours each. Alcohol had a hard time so some parts cleaner on a rag, wear gloves cause the Butyl will go from the door to your hands into bed that night.

A good alternative to the black sticky butyl (hated that stuff) on the inner door vapor barriers is 3M heavy duty double sided mounting tape. I switched my doors to this years ago, it's still a breeze to open the vapor barrier to service the door and restick it. No muss no fuss.
I did this and was perfect. They barrier isn’t meant to be bullet proof, that whole damn door leaks like a sieve, I’ve had to get back in the a few times and sealed great

You can buy freeze spray at the auto parts store. It will make it crumble.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a head unit model with a screen? I am going to install a backup camera with it so, I need a unit with a screen.
Thanks!

you can also use dry ice which does the same thing. Leave it on for a bit and hit it with a rubber mallet and it crumbles. Dry Ice is readily available and cheap.

I like this Sony (Model:XAVAX1000 I think) and the grey background blends in well. Has backup camera attached as well. I use BT and plug small USB drive into front full of FLAC for music.

I have this radio in another car I installed with backup camera and it works well. Apple play etc. I have a pioneer unit in my FJ62 and I would not recommend it. The usb plugin is intermittent. Bluetooth works fine though.

Just wanted to say thank you to the OP. I installed the kickers yesterday and wrapped up the install of a new head unit too. It's nice to have a working stereo in my 62.
