I’m in the process of converting from R12 to R134 on a fj62.
My question is are these ports pictured can they be converted? Or do I need to replace A/C compressor ?

As far as I know, when I did my conversion on my 60, you don’t need to replace the compressor unless it’s bad. I do remember having to use an adapter on some connectors, maybe it was those, but you don’t need a new compressor. There is a big o-ring that goes just under the plate where those connectors are. The one in the evap box is the most difficult o-ring because you have to remove the box under the dash. Oh, and you need a different drier for the r134.

This is what you need to go on those connectors you referenced:

They may not be the exact ones that fit your compressor, but those are the style of adapter that is needed. You could search for the exact ones needed for an fj62.

Yup - second what @Aloha Jen stated. They screw on the outside of the old R-12 fittings. Remove the old schrader valves and install those as well.

You are going to want to pull the lines on the compressor, turn it over a few times and let it pump out the old oil then replace it with PAG oil. I'd clean all the lines while you're doing it as well as the evaporator & condenser to help get rid the old oil.

Replace your expansion valve & drier while you're there too.

Here are the schrader valves (this is from a 1987 Toyota pickup but same design)

And this is with the R134a conversion kit on

yes I have replaced all the o rings plus the big one under the manifold. this is a fj62 so the compressor is different.
everything else is done. I bought fittings but they don't seem too fit.
Edit: ok so the low side adapter fits. Dummy me didn’t remove the valve from the port on the compressor. But the high side adaptor is too large to screw on to the Schrader valve and so is the low side.

Yes I did all that. Thank you.
The high side adapter (red) does not fit the high side Schrader valve. To big.
I tried the (blue) adapter just to check and that don’t fit either slightly smaller than the red but also slightly bigger on the high side schrader valve. If that makes sense?

The Schrader valve goes in the manifold on the compressor, then you thread the adapters on the outside of the manifold.

Yes I know.
The high pressure adapter doesn’t fit on the high pressure schrader valve.

Post some pictures - are you saying the adapter doesn’t fit on the manifold on the compressor? The manifolds are what the compressor hoses thread into where the valves are.

I’d be surprised if they didn’t work since to charge R12 you actually screwed the charging hose onto those threads so they are pretty much the same size across all R12 systems.

those are the exact same adapters I purchased.
you may need to find out the specific adapters needed for your fj62 compressor, I’m sure this conversion has been done hundreds of times on the 62’s.

Yeah I read further on another thread a guy had the same problem. And had to get a different sized adapter. Didn’t mention what size he got but just confirmed I’m not the only one.
Thank Jen.

I remember now on mine (Hj60) I needed to get two different adapter sets because one of mine needed a 90 degree turn in it in order to fit my hose, not sure if it’s the same for 62’s.

No, as far as access it’s all good. It is the actual (High side) adapter that I need to fit the schrader valve.
